Second Place Team Finish by Pleasant Ridge Boys Leads Area Performers at Wamego Cross Country Invite

Plenty of schools competed on Saturday at the Wamego cross country Invitational including a few Northeast Kansas area teams as the meet was spilt into 3-2-1A and 4A races. 

Leading the charge for the area teams in the 3-2-1A competitions was the performance of the Pleasant Ridge boys who notched a second place team performance out of 17 team’s competing. Luke Oatney led the Rams and finished fourth place with a time of 17:36.3, while his teammate Ronny Jared brought 12th place with a time of 18:08.0. 

The best individual performance from the area teams in the 3-2-1A boy’s race came from Frankfort Wildcat, Brodric Shirley who behind a time of 16:46.6 earned the bronze medal on the day. Frankfort as a team finished 14th out of 17 teams, while Sabetha took 8th and were led by Keegan Cox who raced to a time of 18:21.3 placing 12th. 

In the girls 3-2-1A race Pleasant Ridge and Sabetha finished seventh and eighth as teams out of 11 teams competing, while only one area runner notched a Top 20 performance as Taryn Schuette of Sabetha posted a time of 21:49.7 to place 13th. Schuette's teammate, Megan Meyer finished just outside the Top 20, placing 21st on the day. 

Marysville and Doniphan West also had competitors in action in the 3-2-1A competition at Wamego. 

The Class 4A competition featured Atchison in action and in the girls race the lady Red picked up a fourth place team finish out of 18 teams competing. Sarah Jaloma led the lady Red with a time of 20:01.5 to take home second place, while Emily Jaloma finished just outside the Top 20 placing 21st for Atchison.
