Sabetha & Perry Lecompton Lead Area Performers at Hiawatha Girls Tennis Invite

It was beautiful weather on Saturday and several area teams hit the tennis courts to continue their seasons at the Hiawatha Invitational. 

Sabetha, Perry Lecompton and Atchison competed alongside tournament host Hiawatha and three other teams (Sabetha field two teams) in the Hiawatha Invitational. 

For the Bluejays the strong performances continued to come especially for Lexi Wenger who remains unbeaten on the season after winning the Singles competition #1 by going 4-0. Wenger in pool play picked up a 7-1 win over Highland Park, 7-0 victory over Seaman and 7-1 win over Lawrence Free State, earning her a spot in the first place match. In the first place competition Wenger continued to dominate winning 7-2 over Perry Lecompton. Also competing for the Bluejays in singles #1 action was Courtney Plattner who in put together a 3-1 day for third place. Plattner went 2-1 in pool play beating Atchison (7-1) and Hiawatha (injury win), while falling to Perry Lecompton (7-4) and finished the day in the third place matchup with a 7-3 win over Lawrence Free State. 

In singles #2 action for Sabetha Mollie Robinson had the best showing bringing home a fourth place finish after a 2-2 performance. Robinson in pool play earned a 7-4 win over Atchison and 7-6 (7-5) win over Hiawatha, while falling to Perry Lecompton 7-3 and closed out the day falling 7-1 to Seaman in the third place match. On the other side in singles #2 action Angel Hadachek posted a 1-2 record with her lone win over Highland Park (7-2). 

A second and fourth place finish was earned in doubles #1 competition for Sabetha at the Hiawatha Invitational. The tandem of Jenna Winkler and Nicole Brey posted a 3-1 mark, going 3-0 in pool play with wins over Lawrence Free State (7-0), Seaman (7-2) and Highland Park (7-1), but fell to Perry Lecompton in the first place match (7-2). In the other pool the Bluejays team of Savanna Metzger and Bethany Meyers posted a 2-2 record to place fourth; beating Atchison (7-0) and Hiawatha (7-0) in pool play with a loss to Perry Lecompton (7-5) and closed out the action falling to Seaman in the third place match (7-3).

Doubles #2 action also featured two Sabetha teams and the tandem of Jessica Stallbaumer and Mady McGill posted a 3-1 record to place third on the day. Stallbaumer and McGill won in pool play 7-2 over Lawrence Free State and 7-1 over Highland Park, while falling to Seaman (7-5) and closed out the action with a 7-4 win over Atchison for third place. Brooklyn Bauman and Kirsten Wenger also competed for the Bluejays and went 1-2 with a 6-6 (7-5) win over Hiawatha. 

Perry Lecompton put together a strong day with a first place winner and three second place finishers at the Hiawatha Invitational. Leading the Kaws was the team of Ciana Bateman and Anna Guess who won the doubles #1 competition with a 4-0 record. Bateman and Guess picked up wins in pool play against Hiawatha (7-3), Sabetha (7-5) and Atchison (7-1) and beat Sabetha, 7-2 in the first place match. It was 3-1 records for the team of Nikki Seichepine and Hayley Peine to take second place in doubles #2. Seichepine and Peine went 3-0 in pool play beating Hiawatha (7-2), Atchison (7-3) and Sabetha (7-5), but fell 7-5 to Seaman to finish second. While, Harleigh Robertson won 7-0 over Hiawatha and 7-4 over Sabetha but lost 7-3 to Athison in singles #1 but made it to the first place match but fell to Sabetha 7-2, to take second going 2-2. Lia Jones also went 2-2 on the day but earned second place in singles #2 for the Kaws with wins over Hiawatha (7-2) and Sabetha (7-3) but lost to Atchison (6-6 (7-5)) and Lawrence Free State (7-5). 

Atchison's best finish on the day came in the doubles #2 action as the team of Alyxus Thomas and Olivia Wabski earned a fourth place finish, going 1-3. The lone win for Thomas and Wabski was 7-2 against Sabetha, as they fell to Hiawatha (7-4) and Perry Lecompton (7-3) in pool play and lost to Sabetha in the third place match (7-4). In singles #1 Stormy Knott finished the day with a 2-1 record but missed out on the first and third place matches by tiebreakers. Knott registered wins of 7-1 over Hiawatha and 7-3 over Perry Lecompton, while falling 7-1 to Sabetha. Jane Boldrige picked up one win in singles #2 action beating Perry Lecompton, 6-6 (7-5); while the team of Celina Binkley and Breinna Dove also earned one win for Atchison coming in doubles #1, as they won 7-4 over Hiawatha. 

For the host Hiawatha the team of JoLynn Grant and Sadie Meyer, along with singles competitor Aubrey Wright highlighted the day picking up the lone Red Hawk match wins. Grant and Meyer won 7-4 over Atchison in pool play of doubles #2 action, while Wright won 7-3 over Atchison in singles #2.
