Atchison Girls Tennis Team Has Strong Performance at Lafayette Invite

It was a strong day on the courts for the Atchison girls tennis team as they put together their best overall team performance of the season on Wednesday at the Lafayette Invitational. 

The Lady Red picked up four Top four finishes with three Top two medalists on the day. Leading the way for Atchison was a 5-0 performance on the courts by the doubles tandem of Jane Boldridge and Olivia Wabski who took first place in the doubles number one competition. Boldridge and Wabski picked up wins of 8-1 against Lafayette, 8-2 versus Hiawatha and 8-3 against Central, while edging out Benton and LeBlond both by an 8-6 score. 

The team of Alyxus Thomas and Brienna Dove notched a second place finish for Atchison coming in doubles number two action by going 4-1 on the day. Thomas and Dove topped Central by a 8-1 score, beat Lafayette 8-3, picked up the win against Hiawatha 8-4 and beat Benton 8-6 with their lone loss coming to LeBlond 3-8. 

In singles action Celina Binkley earned a second place finish for Atchison going 3-2 on the courts in singles number two action. Binkely earned wins against Hiawatha (8-1), Central (8-3) and LeBlond (8-3), while falling to Benton (4-8) and Lafayette (7-9). Stormy Knott competed in singles number one action for Atchison and posted a 2-3 record to earn fourth place at the Lafayette Invitational. Knott picked up wins against Hiawatha (8-1) and LeBlond (8-0), while falling to Central (0-8), Benton (4-8) and Lafayette (2-8). 

The season continues on Thursday, September 24th for Atchison as they travel back to St. Joseph to compete against Lafayette for a dual competition on the courts and will have tournament action on Saturday, September 26th at DeSoto.
