Riverside & JCN Have Top Runners at Troy Cross Country Invite

A few area teams meet up in Troy on Thursday to continue the cross country season and competed against each other in a small cross country invite. 

The top runners on the day hailed from Riverside and Jefferson County North in the boys and girls race, respectively. 

Riverside Cyclone, Cole Hinton won his second straight meet of the season after posting a time of 18:46.32 to win the Troy Invite, while his teammate Triston Hinton followed him in second place with a time of 19:11.19. Kevin Ross and Myles Matthews also finished in the Top 10 for the Cyclones finishing seventh (21:20.96) and tenth (22:22.43), respectively. 

For the JCN Chargers the top performance came in the girl’s race as Carissa McAfee out raced eight other racers for the win posting a time of 23:44.31. Rose Wendling, Kayla Hutzell, Kendri Hull and Maggie Sharp also raced in the girl’s competition placing fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth. Four Top 10 performances were earned in the boy’s competition for the Chargers with Evan Weishaar and Andrew Noll leading the charge with third (20:23.25) and fourth (20:28.70) places. While, Thomas Steichen and Alvin Sharp notched sixth (20:32.71) and eighth (21:52.92) place finishes. Lane Fowler, Conner Mize and Dakota Hutchinson also competed for the Charger boys placing 13th, 16th and 18th out of 20 runners. 

The McLouth Bulldogs were led by a third place finish from Dominique Tullis in the girls race as she posted a time of 28:48.02, while Shane Adams placed fifth in the boys race with a time of 20:32.04. Marek Koch also grabbed a Top 10 finish in the boys race after posting a time of 22:21.00 to place ninth, while Easton Weems took 14th place, Cody VanHoutan placed 15th and Toby Berends finished 17th. Monica McAferty was the only other girl’s runner for McLouth and she placed seventh out of the nine girls runners. 

The host Troy Trojans had a second place showing in the girl’s race by Alyssa Schmille who notched a time of 28:16.47, while Holly Whetstine took sixth out of nine girls. Reid Jasper and Cadence King competed for the Troy boys and finished 11th and 12th, respectively. 

Doniphan West was the only other school in competition at the Troy Invite on Thursday and the Mustangs had pair runners in the boy’s competition in Gabe Powell and Casey Billups who finished 19th and 20th on the day.
