Royal Valley Boys & Girls Take Second at Home Cross Country Meet, Leading Area Performances

The Royal Valley Panthers welcomed three other area teams, along with several others schools in on Thursday to compete in cross country action and it proved to be a highly competitive day of action. 

The host Panthers picked up the best team performances for the area schools placing second in the boys and girls competition. The boys were led by a trio of Top 10 finishers as Garrett Hicks placed fifth with a time of 18:31.25, while Kwaki Spoonhunter raced to a seventh place finish (18:44.25) and Ninahii Frisby grabbed a ninth place finish (18:55.79). Masen Spoonhunter also finished in the Top 20 for the Panthers as he placed 20th on the day. The lady Panthers finished second as a team just three points shy of first place and like the boys were led by a trio of finishing in the Top 10. Kaytlyn Gooderl led the lady Panthers finishing sixth (21:47.24), while Katie Hanshaw and Kiikto Thomas placed ninth (22:23.41) and tenth (22:36.98), respectively. 

The top time in the boys competition on the day belonged to Sabetha Bluejay, Keegan Cox as he posted a time of 17:33.70 to earn the gold at the Royal Valley Invitational helping the Sabetha boys finish third as a team. Braeden Cox raced to a time of 18:48.14 to finish eighth for the Bluejays, while Henry Glynn just finished outside of the Top 10 placing 12th. Taryn Schuette led the lady Bluejays as she posted a time of 21:09.55 to earn fifth place, while Megan Meyer notched a time of 22:08.60 to place seventh. Emily Strathman grabbed the only other Top 20 finish for the lady Bluejays as she placed 15th. 

Jackson Heights was led by a freshman as Faith Little had the best area girls performance individually finishing third on the day with a time of 20:46.61, while Brianna Cattrell placed 19th for the lady Cobras. Six Cobra boys finished in the Top 20 helping them grab a fourth place as a team with Andrew Pino leading the way with his 13th place finish. Dalton Chartier, Xavier Fritz, Lane Holliday, Ethan Fund and Steven Marshall placed 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th for the Cobras. 

Holton was led by an 18th place performance from Abbigal Hindley in the girl's race.
