Second Place by Jeff West Leads Area Performances at Silver Lake Volleyball Invite

Four Big Seven League volleyball squads hit the court on Saturday at the Silver Lake Invitational against some tough competition. 

The action started off in pool play and Jeff West had the best performance of the four Big Seven teams as the Tigers went 3-0 in Pool "B," earning wins over Rossville (25-19, 25-21), St. Mary's (25-16, 25-13) and Sabetha (25-22, 25-22). Rossville finished second in the poll with a 2-1 mark in pool play, while Sabetha went 1-2 losing to Jeff West and Rossville (18-25, 13-25), while beating St. Mary's (25-11, 25-18). 

Royal Valley and Perry Lecompton competed in Pool "A" along with the host Silver Lake and Chapman. Silver Lake won the pool by going 3-0, while Perry Lecompton went 2-1 to finish second in the pool The Kaws lost to Silver Lake (11-25, 10-25), but beat Chapman (26-24, 25-22) and topped Royal Valley in three sets (25-23, 17-25, 25-17). The Panthers did pick up one win in pool play beating Chapman in straight sets (25-16, 25-17), while falling to Perry Lecompton and Silver Lake (19-25, 9-25). 

Sabetha and Royal Valley moved into the consolation bracket to finish out the day and in the consolation Semifinals, Sabetha beat Chapman (25-13, 25-12) and Royal Valley lost to St. Mary's (19-25, 25-21, 24-26). That put the Panthers in the seventh place match against Chapman and Royal Valley fell in straight sets (19-25, 23-25) to go 1-4 on the day and finish eighth. While, Sabetha capped off their day going 3-2 taking fifth after a straight set win over St. Mary's (25-15, 25-13). 

In the winner's bracket Jeff West and Perry Lecompton squared off against each other and the Tigers picked up the straight set win (25-17, 25-20), while Silver Lake beat Rossville in straight sets in the other Semifinal. The third place contest featured Perry Lecompton and Rossville and the Kaws day ended with a 2-3 record and fourth place as they fell to Rossville in third place match (14-25, 23-25). 

Jeff West pushed a top 3A team in Silver Lake to three sets in the Championship match but fell in the contest to take second going 4-1 on the day. Silver Lake picked up the 22-25, 25-19, 25-12 win over the Tigers.

Rossville defeats St. Mary's: 25-19, 14-25, 25-17

(Consolation Semifinal): Sabetha defeats Chapman: 25-13, 25-12
(Consolation Semifinal): St. Mary's defeats Royal Valley: 25-19, 21-25, 26-24
(7th place match): Chapman defeats Royal Valley: 25-19, 25-23
