Second Place Finish for Sabetha Leads Area Teams at Sabetha Volleyball Invite

As the regular season of the volleyball starts to wind down several area teams took to the court on Saturday for one final tournament before the next tournament at looms in Sub-State. The Sabetha Bluejays played host to six other area teams and three others on Saturday in highly competitive volleyball action at the Sabetha Invite. 

The action started off with pool play and in the Blue pool it was the Marysville Bulldogs claiming the top spot with a 3-1, beating out the host Sabetha Bluejays who also finished 3-1. The Bulldogs earned the number spot in the pool with a three set win over Sabetha (17-25, 25-21, 25-23), while also beating Nemaha Central (25-23, 25-19) and ACCHS (25-12, 25-5), while falling to Wamego (25-21, 26-14). Sabetha lost to Marysville, but beat Wamego in three sets (17-25, 25-13, 25-17), Nemaha Central (25-17, 25-20) and ACCHS (25-14, 25-9). Both Nemaha Central and Wamego posted 2-2 records in the Blue pool play. For the Thunder their wins came against Wamego in three sets (21-25, 25-16, 25-20) and ACCHS (25-6, 25-13). ACCHS finished the day going 0-4, falling to Sabetha, Marysville, Nemaha Central and Wamego (25-14, 25-10). 

In the White pool it was Heritage Christian laying claim to the top spot as they posted a 4-0 record, while Concordia with a 3-1 mark took second in the pool. Holton finished pool play with a 2-2 record, falling to Heritage Christian in a tough three set contest (25-14, 20-25, 25-20) and Concordia (25-18, 25-18), while beating Pleasant Ridge (25-14, 25-16) and Hiawatha (25-11, 25-15). Pleasant Ridge earned one win on the day going 1-4 with a three set win over Hiawatha (25-17, 23-25, 25-19), but fell to Holton, Concordia (25-5, 25-12) and Heritage Christian (25-11, 25-15). Hiawatha finished the day going 0-4, falling to Holton, Pleasant Ridge, Heritage Christian (25-17, 25-13) and Concordia (25-15, 25-12). 

In the Semifinals Sabetha took on Heritage Christian and Marysville faced off against Concordia. The Bluejays needed three sets but earned the 25-19, 18-25, 25-22 win over Heritage Christian and Concordia topped Marysville 25-21, 25-22. 

The Championship would go to Concordia who picked up the straight set win over the host Sabetha, 25-17, 25-22 to claim the tournament title. Marysville took third via forfeit from Heritage Christian.
