Centralia Claims TVL Volleyball Tournament Crown

Once again the Twin Valley League featured another highly competitive season of volleyball in the regular season and the TVL Tournament didn't disappoint either on Saturday at Washington County high school, as Centralia once again laid claim to the tournament crown. 

The 13 League teams were split in to three pools of three and one pool of four teams to decide the four teams that would play in the Championship bracket. 

In pool one it was the number one seed in the tournament Centralia and the eight and nine seeds, Valley Heights and Blue Valley. The Panthers earned two wins over Valley Heights (25-14, 25-12) and Blue Valley (25-22, 25-16) to win the pool. While Valley Heights beat Blue Valley (25-20, 25-15) in the other pool play matchup.

Pool two featured the two seed Axtell Eagles, along with the seven and ten seeds in Clifton-Clyde and Troy and the seeding held up as Axtell went 2-0 in pool play to win the pool. The Eagles topped Clifton-Clyde (25-20, 25-17) and Troy (25-21, 25-19). Clifton-Clyde won the other match in pool play beating Troy in straight sets (25-15, 25-18). 

The six seed came out of Pool three as Hanover surprised and earned a tough three set win over the three seed, Frankfort (23-25, 25-17, 25-17) and beat Doniphan West (25-22, 25-11) to win the pool. Frankfort on the other pool play matchup over Doniphan West (25-11, 25-12). 

Pool four featured four teams with the four seed Washington County leading the way and going 3-0 to make the Championship bracket. The Tigers on their home court beat Linn (25-20, 25-17), Wetmore (25-6, 25-10) and Onaga (25-12, 25-11). Linn earned wins over Wetmore (25-14, 25-10) and Onaga (25-18, 25-20), while Onaga picked up a win over Wetmore (25-12, 29-27) to wrap up the pool.

To assure each team getting three matches on the day the non-pool winners of the first three pools faced off against each other in one final match in consolation games on the day. Valley Heights topped Doniphan West (25-15, 25-15), Clifton-Clyde beat Blue Valley (25-11, 27-25) and Frankfort topped Troy (25-17, 25-8). 

In the Semifinals it was Centralia taking on Washington County and Axtell facing Hanover. The Panthers won the battle of the cats beating Washington County in straight sets 25-16, 25-21, while Hanover again surprised topping another higher seed beating Axtell 25-21, 25-18. 

The Championship was back and forth early until Centralia took set one 25-15 over Hanover and the Panthers down in the second set for good portion early came back and earned the match win with a 25-22 set two win. Washington County took third with a three set match win over Axtell (28-26, 18-25, 25-16).
