Jackson Heights Boys & Royal Valley Girls Claim Team Titles at Jackson Heights Cross Country Invite

It was the final time to hit the course for the cross country season before Regionals and multiple area teams put together strong performances at the Jackson Heights Invite.

The host Jackson Heights boys cruised to the team title winning by 34 points, while Riverside took second and Royal Valley finished third. Jefferson County North, Nemaha Central, Onaga and Valley Falls finished out the boys team performances placing fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh.

On the girls side of action the top team spot was earned by Royal Valley as they edged out Jefferson County North by three points giving the Chargers second place, while Cornerstone took third. Maur Hill-Mount Academy placed fourth as a team.

The top girls time went to the host school in Jackson Heights as Faith Little notched a time of 21:00, winning by 1:58 in the contest. Hannah DuVault and Brianna Cattrell joined her in the Top 10 posting times of 23:58 and 25:39 to place seventh and eighth, respectively. While, Alexis Rieschick earned an 11th place finished for the lady Cobras. In the boys competition the Cobras on their way to a team title were led by Westin Jacobsen who finished fourth (18:56), while Andrew Pino, Xavier Fritz and Ethan Fund placed sixth (19:31.1), seventh (19:34.8) and tenth (19:57.4). Dalton Chartier and Henry Herra-Gomez notched 17th and 20th place finishes. 

Riverside Cyclone, Triston Hinton earned the top spot in the boys race posting a time of 18:13.5 to earn the win, while Cole Hinton finished third with a time of 18:31.6 and Kevin Ross finished in the Top 20 placing 15th. 

On their way to team crown in the girls competition Royal Valley was led by a pair of Top five finishers as Katie Hanshaw and Kiikto Thomas placed fourth and fifth with times of 23:00 and 23:05; Lindsay Bowden joined them in the Top 20 placing 16th. The Panther boys were led by Garrett Hicks who ran to a time of 19:21.4 to earn fifth place, while Thunder Knoxsah placed 19th. 

Onaga Buffalo, Michael Eisenbarth posted a time of 18:29.8 to earn second place in the boys competition, while Jackson Glessner finished 12th. In the girls race the Buffaloes had another Top 10 performance with Maggie Revell finishing sixth behind a time of 23:44, while Belinda Ames earned a 20th place finish. 

JCN Chargers were led by a bronze medal in the girl’s race from Carissa McAfee as she ran to a time of 22:05 to take third, while her teammates, Kayla Hutzell and Rose Wendling finished 15th and 16th, respectively. The boys had three Top 20 finishes with Andrew Noll, Ted Sharp and Evan Weishaar placing 13th, 14th and 16th on the day. 

A pair of Top 10 showings led Valley Falls on the day as Matthew Branam finished eighth in the boy’s race with a time of 19:35.1 and Rachel Woodgate finished tenth in the girls race behind a time of 26:45. Justin Myers grabbed an 18th place finish also for the Valley Falls boys at the Jackson Heights Invite. 

Nemaha Central Thunder were led by Jordan Peterson who raced to a time of 19:46.9 to earn ninth place, while in the girls race Abbey Buessing placed 13th and Karen and Katia Rivera finished 18th and 19th. 

Maur Hill had one Top 20 finisher on the day as Cat Riley raced to an 11th place finish in the girl’s race. 

Teams now turn their attention to Regional action coming up on Saturday, October 24th.
