Riverside 55, Hiawatha 0

Riverside jumped on Hiawatha early with a 90 yard punt return by Bryer Miller and then scored touchdowns on their first six offensive drives of the game to coast to their third win of the season and even their district record at 1-1.  The Cyclones racked up 316 yards in the first half while building a 42-0 lead and averaged 14 yards per play while taking only three snaps on third down.  Hiawatha was plagued by a trio of first half turnovers and ended the night with five giveways before falling to 1-1 in district play.

Miller scored a 13 and 4 yard touchdown run in the first quarter to make it 20-0 then added a 59 yard sprint to paydirt in the second quarter while Gaige Olivero had touchdown runs of 30 and 8 yards in the second stanza as well.  Miller's, the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha, "Player to Bank On," scored his fifth touchdown of the night on a one yard run with 10:15 left in the third quarter to make the score 49-0 and force a running clock the final 22 minutes of the game.  Dawson Dick added a 59 yard touchdown run to cap the Cyclone scoring in the fourth period.  Miller would finish with 199 yards on 11 carries while Olivero added 81 yards and Dick had 74.  Andrew Miller completed both his passes on the night and also ran for 53 yards plus a trio of two-point-conversions.

Hiawatha ran the ball well early in the game and picked up first downs on each of their first four drives of the contest before turnovers ended five possessions in the game, and they provided little resistence in slowing down the Cyclones.  The only Redhawk senior on the field, Ethan Pierce, was injured in the first half and did not return while junior runningback, Colin Sample racked up 112 yards on 26 carries before he was injured in the second half.

Jayden McCall (junior) was named the Denison State Bank "Lineman of the Game" for the Cyclones with Dalton Resler also helping lead the dominating effort across both sides of the line of scrimmage.  Riverside, now 3-5 overall will host Horton next week and a win should get the Cyclones into the playoffs.  Hiawatha, 1-7, must stay close against Sabetha and also needs Horton to win to have a chance at the post-season.
