Back in the playoffs for the second straight year the Axtell Eagles headed into the action fully healthy and ready to take flight for another postseason run and they started that run in impressive fashion, soaring past Centre 46-0, ending the game at the half.

The game started off slow with neither team finding a groove offensively but one team did find that groove, while the other continued to struggle. Axtell broke the scoreless marks on the scoreboard with 5:19 left to go in the first quarter as Colton Buessing hit Brice Koch for a 35-yard touchdown pass and with the two-point conversion it was 8-0. The Eagles continued to stonewall the Centre Cougars offensive and got the ball back quick to strike again with 1:52 left in the first period as Buessing hit Koch for a 43-yard strike and Koch dived into the endzone hitting the pylon making it 16-0.

When the second quarter started things continued to roll for Axtell scoring four more times to finish the game off at the half. Colton Buessing had two and 28-yard touchdown runs with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Kaleb Buessing sandwiched in between those scoring runs. Michael Swanson snagged an interception to set up a short field for the Eagles on one those scoring drives.

The Eagles were leading 40-0 in the final minutes of the first half when Centre mounted their best scoring opportunity with a drive that was aided by a pass inference call. The Cougars got inside the Axtell 20-yard and attempt a pass into double coverage near the corner of the endzone and it was picked off by Burke Deters, giving Axtell the ball on the two-yard line with approximately 28 seconds remaining. The Eagles needed a touchdown to finish the game and Axtell went big with a 47-yard strike from Colton to Koch setting up the Eagles up on the 31-yard with enough time for one more play after Koch got out of bounds on the previous play.

Colton found Kaleb in the flat on the nearside and with blocks from Caleb Heiman and others Kaleb trotted in to the endzone and finished the game with a 46-0 score for Axtell.

The Axtell Eagles with the win moved to 9-1 on the season and were led by the aerial attack as Colton Buessing was 8-10 passing for 247 yards with four touchdowns and ran for 71 yards on 10 carries with two more scores, while Koch hauling in three passes for 125 yards and 2 TDs. Adam Kuckelman brought in a pair of passes for 63 yards and Kaleb Buessing caught two touchdowns. The passing attack of Axtell earned "Community National Bank of Seneca and Sabetha" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA.

Centre finishes their season with a 4-6 record and was held to 88 total yards of offense by the Axtell defense that picked off a pair of Cougar passes.

The flight in the playoffs continues for Axtell on Saturday, November 7th as the Eagles will play in the Regional round at Caldwell with a 3:00pm kickoff.
