Two Area Schools & 13 Area Grapplers Preseason Ranked By KWCA

The high school wrestling season is less than a month away in Kansas and in anticipation the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association has released its preseason rankings and two area schools and 13 area grapplers will start the season ranked.

The Holton Wildcats are the lone school representing the area in the Class 4A preseason polls as the Wildcats are preseason ranked seventh as a team in the Top 10 after a third place team performance at State last year and back-to-back State titles the two previous years. Three Wildcats head into the wrestling season ranked as senior, Justin Pool will start the season ranked second at 138lbs, after finishing third at State last year. Senior, Justin Rieschick ranks third at 145lbs to start the season after finishing third last year at State and junior, Tyler Price will start the year ranked fourth at 152lbs after finishing fourth at 138lbs last year at State. 

In Class 3-2-1A one area team and 10 wrestlers will start the season ranked by the KWCA. Marysville Bulldogs check in at ninth in the Top 10 in 3-2-1A to start the season and leading the way for Marysville is senior, Chris Deters and junior, Jacob Mintzmyer who each will start the season ranked fourth at 13lbs and 170lbs, respectively. Mintzmyer is coming off a year in which he made the State tournament. 

A pair of grapplers from Doniphan West and Sabetha will start the wrestling season ranked. Senior, Garret Dunlap returns after a fifth place finish at State last year and is preseason ranked fourth at 160lbs, while fellow Mustang senior, Kody Collins starts the year ranked third at 182lbs after earning sixth place last year at State. For Sabetha, sophomore, Seth Harrell and senior, Brandon Poe start the season ranked fourth and third, respectively at 113lbs and 170lbs. Both Harrell and Poe earned fifth place finishes at State last year. 

ACCHS Tiger junior, Hunter Ostertag returns as the highest ranked area wrestler to start the season as he will start the season ranked number one at 120lbs after winning the State title at that weight class last year. 

McLouth Bulldog senior, Adam Perkins starts the year ranked second at 220lbs after making the State tournament last year. 

 

Royal Valley Panther senior, Noah Hart and Onaga Buffalo senior, Trenton Ross both will start the season ranked sixth at 145lbs and 132lbs, respectively in Class 3-2-1A. Both guys made the State tournament last year for Hart he qualified for State in 4A. 

The wrestling season is set to commence in early December across the State of Kansas.
