Valley Falls Girls Extend NEKL Win Streak, Dragon Boys Battle Back

The Valley Falls Lady Dragons entered Tuesday night on a 20 game win streak in Northeast Kansas League games dating back to the 2013-14 season.

The Lady Dragons put that streak on the line against previously 3-0 Maur Hill Mount Academy, and the No. 2 team in Class 2A extended the win streak, handing the Lady Ravens their first loss of the season 36-21 in Valley Falls.

Valley Falls jumped out on top early taking a 14-4 lead after the first quarter. Maur Hill Mount Academy responded with a much better second frame, but the Lady Dragons still won the quarter 11-9 to take a 25-13 lead into halftime.

The Lady Raven defense stood strong in the second half giving up just 11 points, but the offense only put up eight to allow the Lady Dragons to hang on for the win.

Valley Falls (4-0) hosts Jefferson County North (3-1) Friday. Maur Hill Mount Academy takes a break for holidays.

Boys

After a season opening one-point loss to Centralia, the Valley Falls boys have put together two wins by an average margin of 26 points.

On Tuesday night, the Dragons continued their strong play in a 51-42 win over Maur Hill Mount Academy.

The Ravens stormed out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter, but a 16-11 second by Valley Falls allowed the Dragons to pull within three at halftime, 21-18. Both teams put up 15 points in the third quarter to leave it a three point MH-MA lead heading into the final frame. The Dragons opened up the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run to take the lead, which they held for good.

Valley Falls (3-1) takes on rival Jefferson County North (2-2) Friday. MH-MA takes a break until after the New Year.
