It was a Twin Valley League battle on Tuesday night at Wetmore as the Cardinals hosted the Frankfort Wildcats with both girls and boy's teams looking to put things together for a solid win. At the end of the night Frankfort headed home with a pair of tough road wins as the lady Wildcats won 52-46 and the Frankfort boys picked up their first win of the season 38-32.

Things started slow for both teams to start the night in the girls varsity action and continued to be sporadic for both teams throughout the contest. Frankfort established the 16-11 lead after the first quarter and that lead grew in the second with a 7-0 run by the Wildcats as they outscored Wetmore 12-6 in the second to lead 28-17 at the half. Freshman, Emilee Ebert spear headed the offense for Frankfort in the second scoring 10 of her 20 points in the second with 16 of the 20 points in the first half. The Cardinals had 11 of their 17 first half points from junior, Dakota McQueen.

Wetmore came out in the third quarter and went on a run of their own holding Frankfort scoreless for most of the third and winning the quarter 13-4 to cut the Frankfort lead to 32-30 headed into the fourth quarter. Each team traded blows back and forth in the fourth with both teams missing opportunities also; Wetmore took their first lead with 3:30 left at 39-38 but that lead would go back to Frankfort as they would secure the 52-46 win.

With the win the Frankfort lady Wildcats improved to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in TVL action, with Ebert leading the way with her 20 points, while she went 9-11 from the free throw line and earned the "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA. Sophomores, Jessa Yaussi and Rebecca Adams added 11 and eight points, respectively for Frankfort in the win. Wetmore with the loss fell to 1-3 on the year and 0-3 in TVL action as McQueen led the Cardinals with 17 points and sophomore, Jill Henry scored 13 points.

The boys game was a see-saw affair from wire to wire between Frankfort and Wetmore with both teams have their fair share of mistakes in the contest. As the first quarter was coming to a close Wetmore played for the final shot of the frame and sophomore, Ethan Osterhaus took it off the dribble to the basket and tied the game at 9-9 after one quarter of play. The low scoring would continue in the second as Frankfort would win the quarter 8-3 to take a 17-12 halftime lead. That halftime lead disappeared in the third quarter as Wetmore came out of the half with some pace and senior, Dakota McKinney would score nine points in the quarter helping the Cardinals take 23-21 lead with 2:45 left in the third, but Frankfort led 25-23 going into the fourth. The teams traded blows back and forth in the fourth quarter each team holding a lead but it was Frankfort ultimately down the stretch holding off Wetmore for the 38-32 win and their first win of the season.

In the win Frankfort was led by junior, Adam Kenworthy who posted a season best 16 points to earn "Community National Bank" Player to Bank On honors on KMZA, helping Frankfort improve to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in TVL play. Senior, Ryan Kraushaar chipped in six points, while freshman, Mitchell Olson and junior, Brendan Levi each posted five points.

Wetmore in the loss was led by McKinney who scored 14 points, while seniors, Trey Craig and Newt Smith each notched eight points for the Cardinals. The loss sends Wetmore to 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in TVL action.

Both teams in the court again on Friday, December 18th as Wetmore is set to host Washington County and Frankfort will travel to Rossville in non-league action.
