KBCA High School Basketball Rankings Dec. 21st - 15 Area Teams Ranked

The holiday break is upon us and basketball scene in Kansas is at a rest for the break mostly with a few games still looming before the calendar turns to 2016. The KBCA has released its final rankings for 2015 and 15 area teams go into the break ranked in their respective classification. 

Class 1A between the Division I and II continues to house multiple Twin Valley League teams in the rankings after strong starts to the season. In 1A-Division II the lady Eagles of Axtell remain as the only area team in the rankings this week as they check in tenth against this week after a 6-2 start to the season. Axtell went 2-0 last week with a 57-38 win at Washington County and beat Clifton-Clyde 55-36 at home. 

Class 1A-DI features five TVL boys and girls teams in the rankings as it has since the start of the season. On the girls side Centralia and Hanover both remain ranked as the lady Panthers move up one spot to third this week and the lady Wildcats stay put at eighth in the rankings. Centralia is off to a 4-1 start this season including a 57-28 win over Linn at home last week, while Hanover also heads into the break 4-1 after beating Blue Valley 64-30 and Onaga 59-16 last week. 

In the boys 1A-DI rankings the Top four features three teams from the TVL as Hanover remains ranked first as they have all done all season thus far, while Doniphan West checks in at third again and Centralia boys move up two spots to fourth in the polls. Hanover heads into the break 3-2 after beating Blue Valley 64-31 and Onaga 67-39 last week, while Doniphan West is a perfect 4-0 on the season after beating Valley Heights on the road last week 55-45. Centralia boys like the Mustangs head into the break with an unblemished record sitting at 5-0 after a win over Linn last week 63-35. 

Four area teams remain in the rankings in Class 2A headed into the break with Valley Falls girls, Jackson Heights boys and Washington County boys and girls all remaining in the rankings this week. The lady Dragons sit at 5-0 on the season thus far after a 36-21 win over Maur Hill and 49-18 win against Jefferson County North and they remain ranked second in the polls this week. The Jackson Heights boys remained at seventh in the polls as they are also unbeaten on the year at 4-0 going into the break after beating Pleasant Ridge 78-52 and Oskaloosa 62-39 last week. The Washington County girls and boys are both on the move in the polls this week as the lady Tigers tumbled down five spots to tenth in the polls after splitting their games last week falling to Axtell and beating Wetmore 75-50 to start the year 5-1, while the Tiger boys are 6-0 to start the year and up one spot to third in the rankings after beating Axtell 65-45 and Wetmore 58-25 last week. 

Both the Sabetha Bluejay girls and boys teams have been ranked all season and that didn't change this week in Class 3A, but now both Nemaha Central girls and boys teams are also ranked out of the Big Seven League, also. The lady Bluejays remain ranked second in 3A after a 5-0 start to the season beating ACCHS 49-25 and Hiawatha 57-28 last week, while the Bluejay boys are also 5-0 to start the season beating ACCHS 62-39 and Hiawatha 41-36 last week. Nemaha Central girls jumped into the rankings last week and are up one spot this week to seventh after starting the year 5-0 beating Hiawatha 45-25 and Perry Lecompton 46-20 last week, while the Thunder boys jump into the polls for the first time this year checking in at ninth in 3A after a 4-1 start to the year which includes wins over Hiawatha 45-26 and Perry Lecompton 61-35. 

The Holton lady Wildcats fell out of the rankings last week but are back in this week coming in at tenth in Class 4A-Division II. Holton heads into the break at 3-2 on the season after a 1-1 week last week falling 62-51 to Hayden, but responding with a 58-17 win over Riverside last Friday. 

A few games remain for some teams just before Christmas but most teams are off for the holidays just having practice to get ready for when the season recommences in January.
