Tigers Tame Cats as Jeff West Sweeps at Holton

GIRLS = Jeff West 56, Holton 52

Looking to avenge an earlier loss this season, the Jeff West girls used a 6-0 run to take a 10-5 lead after one quarter and never trailed again in route to the road win.  The Lady Tigers led 30-20 at halftime and made 20 of 30 free throws to help hold on in the second half.  Jeff West outrebounded Holton 45-23 and got multiple second and third chance points after a posting a season high 45 total and 19 offensive rebounds to improve to 10-8 overall and 8-6 in the League. 

Aaliyah Negonsott was fantastic with a career high 20 points and 7 rebounds while making 12 of 14 free throws for the game.  Faith Becker added 15 points, including a pair of treys that answered Holton shots in the second quarter, and five free throws to clinch the win down the stretch.  Mariah Murdie had 13 points and a season high 18 rebounds (9 offensive) with 5 blocked shots in the Tigers third straight win. 

Holton got 15 points from Hayley Thompson while Shay Tanking hit four treys to score 12.  Courtney Boswell had 8 before fouling out. Sarah Lierz hit a three-pointer to get Holton within 51-50 with just over two minutes remaining and Mackenzie Moore had a putback to get the Cats with 53-52 with :36 left in the game, but Holton could never tie or take the lead before falling to 10-7 overall and 9-4 in the Big 7. 

 

BOYS = Jeff West 56, Holton 40

In their rubber match and third meeting of the year, Jeff West pulled away from a 21-21 tie to take a 25-21 lead into halftime.  Then the Tigers outscored Holton 16-7 in the third quarter to pull away and made 9 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win.  Chord Livingston scored 19 points and Hunter Overstreet added 10 for Jeff West, who also got 14 combined points inside from Nathaniel and Isaiah Schmidt.  The Tigers are now 6-8 i nthe Big 7 League and 6-12 overall. 

Holton struggled offensively against the Tiger size and made only 2 of 9 free throws.  Kaden Brandt was the lone bright spot on offense with 11 points while Bryson Patch was held to 10 and Mason Strader added 8 before Holton saw their five game win streak end falling to 6-7 in the League and 7-10 overall.
