Richter Leads Jackson Heights Boys Over JCN, Charger Girls Take Down Lady Cobras
By Jonny Kane

Fresh off becoming the leading scorer in Jackson Heights program history Friday, senior Zane Richter added to his career point total Tuesday night with a 24 point effort in a 69-42 blowout of Jefferson County North.

In what could be a potential sub-state matchup, the Cobras jumped all over the Chargers from the start drilling four 3-pointers in the opening quarter, two by senior Westin Jacobsen, to take a 21-8 lead after one.

Richter and junior Wyatt Olberding each found their groove in the second quarter combing for 20 points on three 3’s and forcing seven turnovers to push the lead to 26 at halftime, 48-22.

Out of the break, Richter took over the game and put it out of reach pouring in 12 third quarter points, as the Cobras pushed the lead to 30 after three to force a running clock the rest of the way.

With the win, Jackson Heights (17-2, 15-0 NEKL) clinched the boys Northeast Kansas League title outright, and can finish the league season undefeated with a win at Horton (9-10, 8-7) Friday.

GIRLS

Despite a struggle offensively throughout, the Jefferson County North girls used a strong fourth quarter to take down Jackson Heights 39-29 Tuesday night in Winchester.

Both teams struggled to hold on to the basketball to start the ballgame combining for eight first quarter turnovers, which ended with JCN leading 7-5.

The two offenses finally got things going in the second scoring 10 points apiece, but 14 combined first half turnovers by the two sides kept the game in favor of the Lady Chargers by two at the break, 17-15.

Neither team found much offense in the third combining for just 12 total points, but in the fourth JCN went 8-for-12 from the charity stripe to ice the game away.

JCN (9-10, 7-8 NEKL) hits the road to take on Oskaloosa (5-14, 3-12) Friday. Jackson Heights (6-13, 5-10) finishes up the regular season hosting Horton (10-9, 8-7).
