Two Teams & 12 Area Wrestlers Ranked by KWCA Headed Into State Tournaments

The State wrestling tournaments are set for this coming weekend and 44 area wrestlers are set to compete at the Class 4A and Class 3-2-1A State tournaments in Salina and Hays. The KWCA has released a final set of rankings headed into the State tournaments and 12 area wrestlers and two area teams are ranked this week. 

In Class 4A, Holton continues to be the only area team present in the rankings and after a Regional runner-up finish as a team the Wildcats are ranked as a team in 4A coming in at seventh in the Top 10. Junior, Tyler Price who a Regional title moves up to the number one ranking this week at 152lbs, while seniors, Justin Rieschick and Justin Pool both come in ranked fourth this week for Holton at 145lbs and 138lbs, respectively. 

Marysville continues to be the top team in the area in Class 3-2-1A in the rankings as the Bulldogs won a Regional title as a team at the Beloit Regional last weekend and rank sixth as a team this week. Senior, Chris Deters who won a Regional title at 132lbs remains ranked number one in his weight class, while junior, Jacob Mintzmyer who also won a Regional title for Marysville checks in at third in the polls at 170lbs. Bulldogs junior, Jacob Stryker ranks fifth this week at 160lbs after take fourth at Regionals. 

A pair of Royal Valley Panthers jump into the rankings this week in Class 3-2-1A as Dalton Ware and Jacob Box rank fourth and fifth this week at 106lbs and 182lbs, respectively. Ware finished second at Regionals and Box took fourth, both qualifying for State for Royal Valley. 

ACCHS Tiger junior, Hunter Ostertag is headed back to State after placing second at Regionals at 132lbs and ranks third this week in the polls. While, Doniphan West Mustang senior, Kody Collins won a Regional title at 195lbs at the Rossville Regional and ranks third this week headed into State. Riverside sophomore, Scott Resler is headed to State after a second place Regional showing and ranks fourth this week at 138lbs. Onaga Buffalo junior, Quentin Lara continues to remain ranked this week checking in at fifth at 220lbs after a second place finish at Regionals to earn a spot at State. 

 

Twelve area wrestlers head into State ranked and 44 total grapplers from the area will hit the mats on Friday and Saturday for the 4A and 3-2-1A State tournaments.
