The Wetmore lady Cardinals are headed back to Dodge City for the second straight year after a 51-36 win over Hartford in the Class 1A-Division II Sub-State Championship game at Hartford.

Wetmore took the game into their hands early leading 13-9 after the first quarter and added to the lead by intermission going up 22-13. The lead didn't stop growing as the Cardinals continued to fly outscoring Hartford 14-8 in the third giving them a 15-point cushion and they would go on to gain the win by that margin.

Only five gals scored for the Cardinals but four of the five had seven or more points lead by Gerae Haverkamp who scored 19 points, while Ryley Martin contributed 14 points helping the Cardinals move to 12-12 on the season and earn a spot at the 1A-DII State tournament. The Cardinals also posted a 15-18 night from the free throw as a team.

The Cardinals pushed the eventual State Champs in St. John's/Tipton to the brink last year in the first round of State falling only by three-points and head to State with a just .500 record but have had eight of their 12 losses this year by single digits and 10 by 11 points or less. The Cardinals head to Doge City next week for action in the 1A-DII State tournament looking to make some noise again and will play their opening round game on Thursday, March 10th.
