Big Seven League All-League Basketball Honors Awarded

It was another tough year of competition in the Big Seven League on the basketball court and several teams had strong seasons and competed well in the League. 

For the girls the lady Bluejays of Sabetha brought home the League title going 16-0 in the Big Seven League and 22-1 overall at the end of regular season, still competing this season at the 3A State tournament. Nemaha Central girls took second in the Big Seven with a 14-2 League record and 19-4 overall mark. While, Holton took third in the Big Seven going 11-5 in the League, Jeff West and Hiawatha girls finished fourth and fifth in the League notching League marks of 10-6 and 9-7. Royal Valley, Perry Lecompton, ACCHS and Riverside rounded out the League standings as the Panthers finished 6-10 to take sixth, while both Perry Lecompton and ACCHS both went 3-13 and splitting their two games tied for seventh in the League and Riverside finished ninth going 0-16 in League action. 

Leading the way in All-League honors in the Big Seven in the girls side is Sabetha who had both senior, Alexis McAfee and junior, Emily Meyer earned first team, while seniors, Mariah Huneke and Taryn Schuette each picked up honorable mention honors. Nemaha Central senior, Rachael Baumgartner and sophomore, Laura Macke both got first team All-League honors, while sophomore, Shay Tanking and junior, Courtney Boswell of Holton each were named All-League first team honors. Hiawatha senior, Emily Gartner also was named All-League first team, while sophomore, Cariann Kunkel picked up honorable mention All-League honors. The Jeff West Tigers had junior, Faith Becker pick up first team All-League honors, while sophomore, Mariah Murdie earned honorable mention. Royal Valley and ACCHS each had a first team All-Leaguer as sophomore, Tamo Thomas and senior, Mallory Eckert picked up the honors for the Panthers and Tigers. 

On the boys side the Sabetha Bluejays also claimed the Big Seven League title going 15-1 in the League and 22-1 overall at the end of regular season, still competing this season at the 3A State tournament. Nemaha Central boys notched second place in the League with a 13-3 League record and 18-5 overall mark. Royal Valley, Riverside and Jeff West took third, fourth and fifth in the League going 12-4, 9-7 and 8-8 in League play, respectively. Both Hiawatha and Holton finished 6-10 in the Big Seven and the Red Hawks beating Holton twice finished sixth in the Big Seven, while Holton finished seventh. Perry Lecompton posted a 3-13 mark in the League to finish eighth, while ACCHS went 0-16 in the Big Seven to finish ninth. 

Three Sabetha Bluejay boys picked up first team All-League Big Seven honors as seniors, Brock Frey, Calder Keehn and Alec Kirwan earned the honors. Nemaha Central Thunder seniors, Luke Holthaus and Tristan Allen each earned first team All-League honors, while sophomore, Mitchell Henry picked up honorable mention honors. Royal Valley who took third in the League had senior, Jarrett Roy picked up first team All-League honors, while seniors, Derrick Barger and Kwaki Spoonhunter and sophomore, Masen Spoonhunter each earned honorable mention All-League honors. Riverside and Jeff West each had a first team All-League player and honorable mention All-Leaguer. For the Cyclones senior, Grant Shue earned first team All-League honors and senior, Jadon LaRue notched honorable mention honors. Jeff West Tiger senior, Chord Livingston grabbed first team All-League honors, while junior, Kendall Sutton picked up honorable mention honors. Both Hiawatha and Holton each had one All-League player on the season as juniors, Joseph Kunkel and Bryson Patch were named first team All-League for the Red Hawks and Wildcats, respectively. 

It proved to be another highly competitive year in the Big Seven League and provided many great moments this year on the basketball court.
