Wetmore Girls Fall in Semifinals & Will Play for Third In 1A-DII State Tourney

Riding high from a big upset first round win the lady Wetmore Cardinals hit the court again in the Class 1A-DII State tournament in Dodge City taking on Dighton in the Semifinals and the Cardinals got down early and couldn't recover falling 47-36. 

Behind solid shooting and shooting woes from Wetmore the Dighton Hornets set the Cardinals to the third place game in Class 1A-DII. Dighton led 12-8 after the first quarter and that lead extended to eight by halftime with an 11-7 second quarter by the Hornets. Wetmore tried to push back in the second half Dighton answered to continue to hold Wetmore at bay and preserve their lead and ultimately push themselves to the win by shooting 41.7% (20-48) from the floor. Wetmore finished with just a 22.4% outing offensively in the contest hitting 11 of 49 shots. 

The loss moves Wetmore to 13-13 on the season and the Cardinals will vie for third place on Saturday in the 1-DII State tournament. Dakota McQueen and Gerae Haverkamp each led Wetmore with 10 points each in the loss and McQueen earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on the radio. 

Cardinals will look to respond from the loss and end the season on a high note when they take on Ingalls for third place in the 1A-DII State tournament at the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City on Saturday at 12:00pm. (Game will be broadcasted on 92.1 KMZA)
