Axtell Girls To Play For First Ever State Title After Dominant Semifinal Win

Already having won their first game ever at State the lady Eagles of Axtell wanted to continue the winning ways and that they did as they will vie for their first ever State title after a dominate Semifinal win over Ingalls, 52-29. 

Axtell clung to a 8-6 lead after the first quarter against Ingalls and then the Eagles early took flight outscoring Ingalls 17-10 in the second quarter and 12-5 in the third quarter going on to grab the 52-39 win. The Eagles shot solidly in the contest hitting 38.8% from the floor, while out rebounding Ingalls 31-27 to help them to the win. But the biggest difference in the contest the Axtell defense forcing 23 turnovers and the Eagles converting those into 19 points and the play of Megan Buessing spear heading the Axtell offense as she posted a season-high 21 points. 

Buessing with her 21 points on 9-12 shooting and 3-3 free throws earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on the radio, while also grabbing seven rebounds in the contest. Seven other gals recorded two more points for Axtell in the win with Kiersten Talbot notched nine points, while the team had 13 assists on 19 made buckets. 

The win puts Axtell at 22-3 on the season and the Eagles will play for their first ever girls basketball State title going against Dighton in the 1A-DII State title game at 4:00pm on Saturday in Dodge City at the United Wireless Arena. (Game will be broadcasted on Sunny 101.3 FM)
