Class 2A State Tournament – Third Place (Box Score)

A year ago, the Valley Falls girls’ basketball team fell one win short of taking third place in the Class 2A State Tournament losing to Meade in the third place game, 60-51.

Saturday afternoon the Lady Dragons made sure that didn’t happen two years in row by taking down Hill City 54-50 at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.

Early on the Lady Dragons struggled trailing 15-11 after the first quarter, but a 15-6 second quarter allowed Valley Falls to take a 26-21 lead into halftime.

Hill City came out strong in the third quarter and tied the ballgame up at 36 heading into the fourth, but an 18-14 fourth quarter by the Lady Dragons allowed them to escape with a win.

Valley Falls finished the contest 5-of-10 from 3-point range, with senior Jenna Kramer going 3-of-5 on her way to a team high 20 points.

The win capped off a tournament which saw the Lady Dragons knock off Republic County in the first round 63-41, before falling to Olpe in the semifinals 46-34.

The Valley Falls girls ended the season at 25-1, claiming the Northeast Kansas League crown, while also finishing in the top four in the state for the second straight year.
