Northeast Kansas League All-League Basketball Honors Awarded

With the basketball season in the rear view mirror the Northeast Kansas League has handed out their All-League honors. 

The Valley Falls Dragons hauled in the most All-League honors as eight Dragons picked up either first team, second team or honorable mention honors. Five of the eight hail from the lady Dragons team who won the NEKL title by going 16-0 in the League and finished 25-1 this year placing third in Class 2A. Seniors, Sydney Gish and Ali Brown each picked up first team honors, while seniors, Callie Watson and Jenna Kramer each got the nod for second team and sophomore, Rachel Frakes grabbed honorable mention honors. For the Dragons boys it was a third place finish the league this year and a 14-7 overall record while senior, Marty Gatzemeyer helped lead the way earning him first team All-League. Senior, Zac Allen picked up second team honors and senior, Koltlyn Maltsbarger registered honorable mention honors. 

Jackson Heights Cobras had the second most All-League players with five this year tied for Jefferson County North; the Cobras were led by the boys as the Cobra boys went 16-0 to win the NEKL title and went on to finish 24-2 and win the Class 2A State title. Senior, Zane Richter and Wyatt Olberding led the Cobras in the All-League honors each getting the nod for first team All-League, while senior Westin Jacobsen picked up second team honors and junior, Mason Thomas was named honorable mention. Lady Cobra, Katelin Strube also picked up honorable mention honors for Jackson Heights as the lady Cobras finished seventh in the League this year. 

Just like Jackson Heights, Jefferson County North had five All-League players this year led by senior, Bryce Noll who earned first team All-League honors after helping the Chargers finish second in the NEKL this year. Seniors, Nick Funk and Elijah Meyer each notched second team and honorable mention All-League honors, respectively. For the lady Chargers, junior Jentry Seichpine picked up second team honors and sophomore, Ravyn Jobbins earned honorable mention helping JCN finish fifth in the NEKL this year. 

Four schools have four All-League players this year with Maur Hill-Mount Academy, Horton, Immaculata and Pleasant Ridge each having a quartet of players pick up All-League honors. The Maur Hill girls finished second in the NEKL this year and senior, Avery Lewman was a big part of their success earning her first team All-League, while junior, Hana Ronnebaum notched second team honors and junoir, Lexi Griffin was named honorable mention. The Raven boys tied for fourth in the NEKL and had Kevin Lykins earn honorable mention All-League. 

Both Horton teams finished fourth in the NEKL this with the boys tying for fourth with Maur Hill. Two girls and two boys each registered All-League honors for Horton. The lady Chargers had sophomore, Daspin Bruning earn first team, while senior, Chelsey Trautloff was named honorable mention and on the boys side, senior, Alec Cowley registered second team honors and senior, Channdler Knudson picked up honorable mention honors. 

Immaculata like Horton had two girls and two boys earn All-League honors after the girls finished sixth in the NEKL this year and the boys seventh. Senior, Sadie Schubert led the lady Raider honors with second team honors, while senior, Lauren Vardiman earned honorable mention and for the boy’s freshman, Zach Schwinn registered second team honors and senior, Justin Varney got honorable mention. 

Pleasant Ridge had two first team All-Leaguer as freshman, Lindsey Heim earned that honor helping her team take third in the League this year and senior, Jagar Haack got first team on the boy’s side for the Rams. While, junior Mallory Wagner picked up honorable mention honors for the lady Rams. The Rams boys finished eighth in the NEKL and along with Haack, senior, Brenan Hollinger earned All-League honors getting honorable mention. 

Oskaloosa had a pair of All-League players after the boys finished sixth in the League and the girls eighth. Freshman, Jaxson Webb for the boys and sophomore, Jaden Courter for the girls each registered honorable mention All-League. 

The McLouth Bulldogs had one All-Leaguer as freshman, Madison Pope picked up honorable mention honors for the lady Bulldogs. Both the McLouth girls and boys each finished ninth in the League this year.
