Immaculata Wins Home Boys Tennis Invitational

The racquets were swinging on Tuesday as Immaculata hosted several other schools for boys tennis action to open the season with several other area teams among those like Hiawatha and Marysville. 

At the end of a highly competitive day of competition it was Immaculata just edging out Maranatha by one-point to win the overall meet title. Hiawatha, Marysville and Atchison each finished fifth, sixth and eighth respectively out of eight teams.

It was the doubles teams for the Immaculata Raiders that led them on the day as they won both doubles competitions. It was 4-0 days for both Doubles tandems for the Raiders. In Doubles #1 action the team of Hunter Patten and Adam Habib won 8-0 over Bishop Seabury and 8-1 over Hiawatha and Marysville in pool play to play for first place and beat KC Christian 8-1 in the first place match. In Doubles #2 the team of Andrew Jones and Ben Lee beat Hiawatha 8-0, topped Marysville 8-3 and won a close match over Bishop Seabury 8-7 (7-6) and in the first place match won 8-6 over Maranatha. In singles action Cheng Luo took third in Singles #2 and Matthis Meyer took fifth in Singles #1 for the Raiders. 

Hiawatha Red Hawks day was highlighted by Joseph Kunkel who earned second place in the Singles #1 competition with a 3-1 day on the court. Kunkel won 8-3 over Marysville and Immaculata in the pool play along with a 8-5 win over Bishop Seabury, giving him the opportunity to vie for first place but he took the 8-0 loss to a player from KC Christian. The doubles teams of Kyle Tollefson and Evan Shamburg and Brennan Barnes and Rhodes Brook both took fifth place in Doubles #1 and #2, respectively. While, Brandon Hurn took fourth in Singles #2 action for the Red Hawks. 

Marysville had three seventh place finishes on the day as Nathan Parmentier took seventh in Singles #1 action and the teams of Maverick Ohlde and Cabe Capp and Jayden Ballman and Ben Frese both finished seventh in Doubles #1 and #2, respectively. 

Atchison had Mason Oswalt compete in Singles #2 action on the day and Bruce Dolenz and Nathan Stone compete in Doubles #2 action.
