Vermillion Leads Area Performances at Washington County Boys Golf Invite

Four area schools along with two others teed it up on Tuesday to get the boys golf season rolling along and several solid performances came at the hands of local athletes. 

Republic County captured the best team score on the day with 357 just edging out Vermillion who recorded a 359 as a team to take second. Onaga took third by four strokes over Nemaha Central as the Buffaloes had a team score of 385 and the Thunder a team score of 389. Washington County and Riley County finished the team scores with scores of 390 and 462, respectively. 

Individually Ryan Vernon started the season strong carding the best round at the competition with an 80 finishing four strokes better than everyone. Two of his teammates had Top five performances as Otto Nermo who shot an 85 took third and Jason Gore who posted an 87 placed fifth. Sean Rempe's 107 rounded out the four-man team score for Vermillion, while Kobe Rumbo and Brandon Anderson notched rounds of 109 and 116 on the day.

Onaga Buffaloes took second as a team and were led by Tyler Flemming who finished fourth on the day with an 85. Jace Fischer was the only other Buffalo to card a round under 100, finishing at 97, while Ben Kufhal tallied a round at 100, Jaxon Schlegal carded a 103, Trenton Ross a 104 and James Johnson a 127. 

Nemaha Central Thunder was led by Michael Love who had the second best individual performance on the day carding an 84. Dylan Enneking and Cory Nolte posted rounds of 90 and 99, while Issac Ganstrom finished out the team for the Thudner with a 115. 

A sixth place finish by Evan Ouellette lead the host Washington County Tigers as he posted a round of 88. Hunter Johnson and Sidney Applegarth each carded rounds of 94, while Caleb Lovgren finished with a round of 114. 

Valley Heights and Hanover all competed on the day also with only three golfers each. A 94 by Bryan Yungeberg led Valley Heights, while Quentin Blaske posted a 105 and Dylan Wagner carded a 113. Gavin Pralle, Dayton Schockley and Nathan Luppen represented Hanover posting rounds of 144, 151 and 152, respectively.
