Troy Baseball Sweeps Doniphan West

After a pair of losses to start the baseball season the Troy Trojans have now strung together four wins in a row including a double header sweep on Wednesday on the road against Doniphan West winning 13-4 and 14-3. 

Troy jumped on Doniphan West early in game one of the double-header plating four runs in the first and second inning each capitalizing early on six Doniphan West errors throughout the game. In the top of the fourth the Trojans added two more runs as Tucker Morris delivered an RBI triple in the inning for one of the runs and it was a 10-0 lead for Troy. Doniphan West had a few base runners in the first four innings but it wasn't until the bottom of the fifth they broke through taking advantage of two walks in the inning and Lane Spiker delivered a two RBI double to get the Mustangs on the board and continue the game into the sixth inning was it was 10-2 after five. Troy hung three more on the board in the seventh and the Mustangs tried to string a comeback together in the bottom of the seventh scoring a pair of runs but had too much ground to make up and fell 13-4. 

Brody Winder earned the win for Troy on the mound going six innings giving up two runs on three hits, seven walks, while striking out eight. Offensively Morris paced the Troy 13 hit attack going 4-4 with three RBI, three runs scored, while Wyatt Huss was 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored and Reid Greaser had a pair of hits with two runs scored. 

Doniphan West in the loss had a solid pitching outing by Zeb Speer who through 6 1/3 innings and struck out four but gave up 13 hits and 13 runs (many unearned). Spiker, Levi Watts, Landon Parsons and Garret Dunlap each registered a hit in the loss. 

Game two started with early offense again for Troy as Greaser laced a leadoff double and after a walk put Winder on the base pads two batters later Wil Smith smacked a two RBI double to give Troy the early 2-0 lead. Wyatt Huss took to the mound for Troy and combed from Doniphan West the first time through the order setting them down in order through the first three innings. In the top of the fourth Troy added to their lead with two more runs, but Doniphan West responded with a pair of hits and a walk in the bottom of the fourth to plate two runs and make it a 4-2 game after four innings. Things broke loose for Troy's offense the next two times at the plate batting around in the fifth and sixth innings and scoring five runs each time and while Doniphan West got a run in the fifth the game was run-ruled after six at a 14-3 score for a Troy win and sweep. 

Wyatt Huss went all six innings giving up three runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batter, while striking out four. While Troy again amassed plenty of offensive with 15 hits including a 3-3 game for Greaser with three runs scored, three RBI's, a double and two walks, while Wil Smith was 2-3 with four RBI, a double, walk and was hit by a pitch. Luke Smith, Cuttar Huss and Alex Martinez all had two hits in the contest for Troy. 

Doniphan West had just seven base runners in the second game with Speer and Hunter Idol reaching base safely twice in the contest. 

The loss sends Doniphan West to 4-3 on the season and the Mustangs will next be in action on Monday, April 11th at Immaculata for a double header, while Troy with the wins moves to 4-2 on the season, having won their last four and travel to McLouth on Monday for a double header.
