Washington County Girls & Boys Take Third at Riley County Invite

Pair of Twin Valley League teams took to the track and the field at the Riley County Invitational on Friday and competed against tough competition. 

The Washington County Tigers snagged a pair of third place team performances as the lady Tigers took third just edging out Manhattan for third place and the boys placed third only 8.5 points out of second place. Blue Valley-Randolph also competed on the day and took eighth place for the boys and ninth for the girls out of ten teams. The Silver Lake girls won the team title on the day, while Abilene won the boys crown. 

Six individual first place performances paced the Washington County Tigers on the day with four of the six coming in the boy's competition. Cole Thompson sprinted to the gold in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.50, while Jerrod Hoover leapt to the win in the high jump with a leap of 6'02 and Jae Eaton with a toss of 51'06.25 took first in the shot put. Levi Gauby notched the other first place for the Tiger boys winning the pole vault by a foot with a mark of 12'06, while also taking second in the triple jump. Jenna Hennerberg and Brooke Tuma each won gold medals for the lady Tigers as Hennerberg posted a toss of 38'07.25 to win the shot put by over four feet and Tuma won the discus by over nine feet with a toss of 116'07.50. Hennerberg added a silver medal in the javelin to her day and Tuma took third in the javelin. 

Two other silver medals were earned by Tigers as Holly Delay nabbed second in the high jump and Jon Harding placed second in the 110 meter hurdles. 

A pair of second place showings by Georgia Hatesohl led Blue Valley-Randolph on the day as she earned the silver in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. While in the boys competition both Griffen Vincent and Michael Wright each brought home third place finishes in the high jump and discus, respectively. 

Both Washington County and Blue Valley-Randolph continue the track season next week as the Tigers host track action on Tuesday, April 12th and the Rams travel to Frankfort for track on Friday, April 15th.
