Sabetha Takes Top Spots at Hiawatha Boys Golf Invitational

Eight area schools teed it up on Friday and looked to put together their best swings, chips and punts breaking out the clubs for some boys golf action as Hiawatha hosted the action. 

At the end of the competition the solid start to the golf season continued for Sabetha as the Bluejays flew to the win with a four-man team score of 160, beating out Maur Hill-Mount Academy who took second as a team with a 165 four-man score. Holton, Immaculata and Falls City finished third, fourth and fifth with four-man team scores of 175, 181 and 197. The host Hiawatha took sixth with a 199 four-man team score, while Horton and Atchison finished seventh and eighth with team scores of 242 and 268, respectively. 

A trio of guys with Top 10 individual rounds helped lead Sabetha to the team title on the day and that included the best individual round as Garett Scott carded a 35 to take first place by three strokes. Jesse Burger and Connor Epple also finished in the Top 10 placing third and tenth, respectively with rounds of 39 and 43. A round of 43 by Jonah Montgomery finished out the four-man team score for the Bluejays, while Reese Lierz and Noah Garber also competed on the day posting rounds of 44 and 46. 

Maur Hill was led by Daniel DeLuna who had the second best individual round on the day with a 38, while Christian Wessel and Patrick Sullivan each posted a 42 on the course and took seventh and ninth place individually. Sam Sowers 43 finished out the Ravens four-man team score for the day, while Canyon Miller and Cole Harris also were in action posting rounds of 45 and 49. 

A pair of Holton Wildcats nabbed Top 10 performances as AJ Haussler and Brian Nelson posted rounds of 39 and 42 to finish fourth and eighth at the Hiawatha Invitational. Both Riley and Austin Shepley each notched rounds of 47 to finish out Holton's four-man team score earning them third place on the day. Brandt Rose and Kaden Brandt each also were in action for Holton scoring rounds of 49 and 50. 

Immauclata Raider, Evin Wheaton posted a 42 on the day helping his team take fourth place as his teammates, Ian Wheaton, Justin Varney and Jacob Murphy finished out the Raiders four-man score recording rounds of 44, 47 and 48, respectively. Dawson Schroeder also competed for Immaculata posting a round of 50. 

A 42 by Aaron Kurpgeweit led Falls City on the day and gave Aaron a fifth place individual finish, while a round of 50 by Austin Babb and Eric Eickhoff and a 55 from Isaac Hogue finished out the Tigers four-man team score. Austin Aldana also was on the course for Falls City posting a 61 on the day. 

The host Hiawatha Red Hawks were led by Caden Little who carded a 47 on the day, while Tom Nolte, Tarren Miller and Keenan Hinton finished out the team score with rounds of 48, 51 and 53. Zach Perry and Lucas Holladay posted a 56 and 60 for the Red Hawks also on the day. 

Four golfers were in action for Horton as Cameron Smith, Rex Bruning, Rylee Rodvelt and Cole Bottom posted rounds of 52, 60, 65 and 65 at the Hiawatha Invitational. 

Atchison also had four golfers in action on the day as Mason Oswalt, Katelyn Truman, Kairstin Snyder and Micah Dulac notched rounds of 62, 66, 66 and 74.
