Atchison Boys and Girls Claim Perry-Lecompton Invitational

The Atchison boys and girls track teams each placed first in the Perry-Lecompton Invitational Tuesday afternoon.

The boys took the top spot with 132.5 points, while Perry came in second with 120.5 points and Jeff West fourth with 53 points.

The Atchison girls claimed the Perry Invitational title with 148.5 total team points, while Jeff West took third with 84 points and Perry fourth garnering 56.5 points.

On the girls side, Atchison claimed the most first place finishes in the meet with five total combined both on the track and in the field events. Talia Rawls raced her way to gold in the 100 meter dash, while Sarah Jaloma joined her with a first place finish in the 3200 meter run. Jaloma, in the process, broke her own school record by five seconds (11;51).  The Lady Red took two of the three relay events on the day, winning the 4X400 and 4X800 relays. Payton Nigus finished up the first place finishes for the Atchison girls as she took gold in the javelin with a throw of 109 feet, 2 inches, and broke her own school record.

The Jefferson West girls finished the day with three first place finishes with two golds coming in field events. Makenzie Tucker claimed the 800 meter run for the Lady Tigers, while Makayla Greene took first in the discus and Alyssa Garza rounding things out with a win in the shot put.

Perry-Lecompton rounded out the top finishes on the girl’s side with Lexia Jamison earning the gold in the 1600 meter run, while Abbi Folks finished off the day with a first place finish in the triple jump.

The Atchison boys were led by four first place finishes on the day, beginning with Simon Holly who claimed both the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Matthew Sowers claimed the only other individual first in the 3200 meter run, while the Redmen boys took the gold in the 4X800 meter relay with a time of 9 minutes, 13 seconds.

Perry-Lecompton finished the meet with four first place finishes themselves on the boys side, with two individual gold medals by Torin Vannest in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. The Perry boys also claimed the 4X100 and 4X400 relays.
