Syracuse Boys and Conestoga Girls Win Irish Inv. Track Titles

(KLZA)-- The Conestoga girls and Syracuse boys were the champions of the Irish Invitational Track Meet at Syracuse Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars scored 95 points to win the title, Syracuse was second with 87, Pawnee City was third with 78, Sterling fourth with 70, Lourdes Central Catholic was fifth with 57 and Sacred Heart was sixth with 43 points.  In all there were a dozen teams competing for the title in both the boys and girls meets. 

The Rocket boys scored 129 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Sterling with 81. Sacred Heart was third with 76, Pawnee City was fourth with 72. Lourdes Central Catholic was fifth with 36.

Individually Braxtyn DeGolyer of Syracuse had a big day winning the 100 meter dash, 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Rocket teammates winning gold medals included Peyton Harsin in the 400 meters; the 4 x 400 relay team; Jake Heitkamp in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

Holden Christen of Lewiston won the 800 meters. Alex Menninga of Pawnee City won the 1600 meters and his teammate Andrew Davis win the discus. Sacred heart won the 4 x 100 relay. Henry Arnold of the Irish won the 200 meters and Bryant Jorn won the shot put. Sterling picked up gold in the 4 x 800 relay. 

In the girls competition Taylor Cockerill of Sterling won two gold medals winning the 400 and 800 meters.

For Pawnee City, Mariah Willey continues to shine again this spring winning the 100 meter hurdles, long jump and high jump which she won by 11 inches, clearing 5’5”.   Miranda Branek won the 3200 meters for Pawnee City.

Maggie Goltz won the triple jump for Sacred Heart and Haylee Heits was the winner in the shot put.  

Meredity Clark of Syracuse won the discus. Laura Box of Lourdes Central Catholic won the 300 meter hurdles and the Knights won the 4 x 800 relay.
