Nemaha Central Girls & Washington County Boys Take Top Spots at Nemaha Central Track Invite

Nemaha Central Track Invitational Results (5-3-16) - Varsity Results & JV Results

The final month of high school spring sports is underway across the state of Kansas and the track season rolled along on Tuesday as Nemaha Central hosted several area teams for competition. 

At the end of the day it was the host Nemaha Central claiming the top team spot in the girl’s competition finishing with 146 total points to take first place, while Marysville took second with 101 total points and Axtell finished out the Top three with 76 points. Sabetha edged Washington County for fourth with 65 points and the Tigers had 64.5 points taking fifth, while Royal Valley, Rock Creek and Jackson Heights finished out the girls team standings. 

On the boys side of competition it was the Washington County Tigers taking the team title at the Nemaha Central Invitational finishing with 110 total points and the only boys team to surpass 100 total points. Axtell and Riverside notched second and third place finsihes with 72 and 64 points, respectively. The Cyclones just edged Sabetha for third as the Bluejays had 63 points good for fourth place and the host Nemaha Central had 60 points giving them fifth place. Marysville, Jackson Heights, Royal Valley, Rock Creek and Flint Hills Christian finished out the boys team standings. 

The host Nemaha Central Thunder claimed the most event wins on the day between the girls and boys competitions combined with nine. Jacob Koelzer once again continued to dominate the competition heading home with three golds at his home meet by winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes, along with the long jump. Koelzer sprinted to times of 11.02 and 23.04 to win the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while posting a leap of 21'05 to win the long jump. Kaley Dalinghaus tossed her way to a pair of first place finishes for Nemaha Central winning the javelin (134'10) and shot put (41'06). In the boys competition Caleb Bradley was the lone other Thunder to win an event winning another pole vault crown this year with a vault of 14'00. On the girls side of action both Allison Rottinghaus and Rachael Baumgartner won events as Rottinghaus won the long jump (16'01.75) and Baumgartner took the gold in the pole vault (10'09), while the lady Thunder 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 52.20 took first, also. 

Bradie Schmitz led the Axtell Eagles performances on the day winning the 200 and 400 meter dashes behind times of 26.21 and 58.99, while also being a part of the girls 4x400 meter relay team that took first with a time of 4:21.30. The Eagles overall had six first place finishes on the day the other three came by Brice Koch in the boys 800 meter run (2:08.14), the boys 4x800 meter relay team (9:00.14) and Mariah Deters who won the girls high jump (5'04). 

Five first place finishes led the Washington County Tigers on the day with four coming in the boys competition to help guide the Tiger boys to first place as a team. Both Jae Eaton and Jerrod Hoover took gold in field events for the Tigers winning the shot put (51'03) and high jump (6'05), respectively. While on the track the Tiger boys won the 4x100 meter relay (45.36) and Jon Harding placed first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.32). The other first place finish came at the hands of Brooke Tuma who tossed her way to the discus title with a throw of 120'11. 

Sabetha, Jackson Heights, Riverside and Marysville all had three first place finishes in individual events at the Nemaha Central Invitational. 

For the Bluejays two of the three gold medal finishes came in the girls competition as Abby Hinton posted a time of 12.96 to sprint to the win in the 100 meter dash and the lady Bluejays with a time of 10:36.50 won the 4x800 meter relay. Keegan Cox also won gold for Sabetha posting a time of 4:51.52 to win the boys 1600 meter run. 

Faith Little led Jackson Heights as she paced her way to times of 2:24.58 and 5:39.40 to win the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Wyatt Olberding leapt his way to a first place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 41'10. 

All three first place showings for the Riverside Cyclones happened in the boy’s competition as Tre Wilkinson won the 400 meter dash (51.24), Cole Hinton took first in the 3200 meter run (10:29.11) and the Cyclone boys won the 4x400 meter relay (3:37.40). 

Marysville was led by Claire Cudney, Avery Williams and Chase Green who all earned first place finishes. Cudney won the girls 100 meter hurdles (15.22), while Williams took first in the girl’s 300 meter hurdles (48.02) and Green won the boys javelin (177'06). 

Kaytlyn Gooderl and Lucas Broxterman led Royal Valley on the day winning the girls 3200 meter run (13:34.08) and boys 300 meter hurdles (41.65).
