Maur Hill Wins & Jeff West Takes Second at Perry Lecompton Boys Golf Invite

The weather has been great for spring sports after a rainy stretch and Mother Nature gave area boys golf teams and others a great day to tee it up on Thursday at the Perry Lecompton Invitational. 

It's been a strong boy's golf season for the Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens and that continued at the Perry Lecompton Invitational as the Ravens carded a team score of 328 to take first place by seven-strokes. The Jeff West Tigers finished second with a team score of 335, with Mill Valley behind them in third with 340 team score. Rossville and Basehor-Linwood rounded out the Top five team scores taking fourth and fifth with team scores of 365 and 366. Tonganoxie, Perry Lecompton, St. Mary's, DeSoto and Atchison finished out the team standings taking sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth places with team scores of 386, 410, 410, 418 and 428, respectively. Horton also competed but did not field a team score. 

Maur Hill on their way to first place as a team was led by a pair of Top five finishes, while five Ravens finished in the Top 15 on the day. Sam Sowers paced Maur Hill earning second place after carding a 74, which tied for the best round but Sowers took second on the tiebreaker. An 81 earned Pat Sullivan fifth place for the Ravens, while Daniel DeLuna, Canyon Miller and Corbin Pulido placed 11th, 13th and 14th with rounds of 86, 87 and 87. 

Jeff West was led by Preston Stanley who carded a 76 to take third place, while Cooper Mickens and Collin Ellis also grabbed Top 10 finishes for the Tigers. Mickens finished eighth with an 85, while and 86 gave Ellis tenth place. 

Perry Lecompton, Atchison and Horton were in action also on the day a 99 led the Kaws as Nick Maloun posted the round, while Atchison's best round came from Dustin Goodman who carded a 98 and Horton had their best round by Cameron Smith who shot a 98.
