JCN Boys & Girls Claim NEKL Track Titles

The regular season track wrapped up with League action for Northeast Kansas League teams as they took to the track and the field on Thursday in McLouth competing for the right to say they are League champs. 

At the end of the day it was the Jefferson County North Chargers charging to a pair of NEKL track titles as both the girls and boys each won the League crown. The lady Chargers behind a 131 total points grabbed first place but only by eight points over Maur Hill-Mount Academy who took second. Jackson Heights with 94 points rounded out the Top three in the girls team standings. Oskaloosa, Pleasant Ridge and McLouth finished fourth, fifth and sixth as teams, while Xavier, Horton and Valley Falls finished out the girls team standings in seventh, eighth and ninth. 

On the boys side of competition JCN notched 134 total points to claim the NEKL track team title by 21 points over Jackson Heights who took second place with 113 points, while Oskaloosa recorded 107 points for third place. Fourth, fifth and sixth place team finishes were earned by Pleasant Ridge, Maur Hill and McLouth, while Valley Falls, Horton and Xavier finished out the team standings in seventh, eighth and ninth. 

Nine first place finishes on the day paced JCN to their League titles and five of the nine came in the boys competition. Evan Weishaar sprinted to the gold in the boys 100 meter dash (10.99), while the other four first place finishes for Charger boys came in the field events. Caden McAfee took first in the discus (114'00.50), Joel Abel won the high jump (6'00), Jacob Schrick claimed first in the javelin (148'05) and Ridge Robertson won the pole vault (10'09). The lady Chargers had Carissa McAfee win the 3200 meter run (12:57.14), Carlee Noll take the gold in the triple jump (32'05) and the girls 4x100 meter relay team place first (53.37). 

Leading the Oskaloosa Bears again was Dillion Grother who snagged a trio of gold medals sweeping the hurdles with times of 16.02, 41.62 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and a leap of 41'03 gave him first place in the triple jump. The Bear boys also raced to the win in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.33. In the girls competition Brittini Pryor won three events for the Bears as she leapt to wins in the long jump (14'08) and high jump (4'08) and won the 300 meter hurdles (50.90). Jaden Courter also won an event for the lady Bears posting a toss of 111'04 to win the discus. 

Jack Siebert led Maur Hill pacing his way to first in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs behind times of 4:47.11 and 10:43.18. While in the girls competition the lady Ravens won the 4x400 (4:17.64) and 4x800 (10:43.43) meter relays and Avery Lewman raced to the 400 meter dash (1:02.65) win. 

Pleasant Ridge Rams had five event winners at the NEKL meet with Grace McKinney leading the charge sprinting to times of 12.86 and 27.34 to win the 100 and 200 meter dashes. In the boys action Gabe Younger won the 400 meter dash (51.58) and Jagar Haack took first in the shot put (49'05), while the boys 4x800 meter relay (8:53.01) team also earned gold. 

Faith Little continued her strong track season for Jackson Heights winning both the 800 and 1600 meter runs behind times of 2:24.49 and 5:25.96. While in the boys action Westin Jacobsen earned a first place finish in the 200 meter dash (23.52) and the Cobras boys 4x400 meter relay (3:36.37) team brought home first. 

McLouth had a pair of event winners at the NEKL meet as Anna Moore won the girls 100 meter hurdles (16.18) and Dimitri Tullis took first in the in boys long jump (19'07.25). 

For Horton they were led by Daspin Bruning who won the girls shot put NEKL title with a toss of 35'09.50 and Valley Falls was led by Justin Myers who won the boys 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.58. 

The Northeast Kansas League teams now turn their attention to Regional action coming up next Friday, May 20th as they will try and compete for a spot at State. Pleasant Ridge, Oskaloosa and Maur Hill will be at the Class 3A Regional hosted by Royal Valley, while Valley Falls, JCN, Jackson Heights, Horton and McLouth will all compete at the Class 2A Regional hosted by Valley Heights.
