Immaculata, Centralia & Onaga Qualify for 1A State Golfer Along with a Few Other Area Golfers

While Mother Nature was postponing many other boys golf Regionals and other high school sports early in the week area teams and golfers in Class 1A were able to tee it up in their Regional golf action on Monday and behind several strong rounds many area golfers will be at State. 

The defending Class 1A State Champs will have a chance to defend that title as the Immaculata Raiders are headed back to State as a team after claiming the 1A Pleasanton Regional title on Monday. With a team score of 364 Immaculata won the Regional, while Centralia took second with a 393 and Onaga posted a team score of 444 to finish third and all three qualify for State as teams. 

Immaculata was led by a trio of Top five performances including a Regional title for Evan Wheaton who took first place with a 77, five strokes better than his teammate, Dawson Schroeder who carded an 82 to take second place. Ian Wheaton shot a 98 and finished fifth. Jacob Murphy and Justin Varney also competed for Immaculata posting rounds of 107 and 112, respectively. 

The Centralia Panthers are headed to State as a team after a second place finish at Regionals led by Jason Gore who behind a round of 93 took third place. Ryan Vernon, Sean Rempe and Otto Nermo all notched Top 10 performances for Centralia finishing seventh, eighth and ninth with rounds of 99, 100 and 101. Kobe Rumbo and Jared Schmitz also competed for Centralia on the day carding rounds of 117 and 171, respectivley. 

With a third place team finish Onaga will be sending their team to State next week. The Buffaloes were led at Regionals by a pair of Top 10 finishes as Jace Fischer posted a 97 to take fourth, while Ben Kufahl finished sixth with a 99. Trenton Ross, James Johnson and Jaiden Kolterman also competed for Onaga posting rounds of 122, 126 and 138. 

Also qualify for State at the 1A Pleasanton Regional was a pair of golfers from Frankfort who each carded two of the Top five individual rounds from a non-qualify team. Austin Hardwick and Brandon Anderson behind rounds of 101 an 114 finished 11th and 17th and each qualified for State. 

One other area school competed in Class 1A boys golf Regionals but at another location as Linn teed it up at the Lost Springs-Centre Regional and pair of Bulldogs are headed to State after carding the two best rounds of the day. Chase McGatlin won the Regional title with a round of 100, just one stroke better than his teammate, Andrew Meyer who with his 101 took second place to also qualify for State. 

The Class 1A boy’s golf State competition is set for Monday, May 23rd at Trails West golf course in Fort Leavenworth hosted by Immaculata.
