(KLZA)-- Three former Doane University Tiger athletes are currently gearing up for action over the next two weeks in hopes of qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Among them is 2016 graduate Kale Wolken, a Tecumseh native and graduate of Johnson-Brock High School.

Wolken will compete in his first USA Olympic Team Trials meet when he travels to Eugene, Oregon. Wolken will compete July 2nd and 3rd in the 10-event decathlon.

Wolken enters the competition with the 11th best qualifying mark and 8th best mark in the USA this season with 7,830 points.

Wolken will need a Top 3 finish as well as a minimum score of 8,100 points which is the Olympic qualifying standard.

Other former Tigers competing will be B.J. Lawrence, a 2012 Doane graduate who will represent his country of St. Kitts and Nevis. Lawrence was an Olympian during the 2012 London Games.

2010 Doane graduate Jared Schuurmans attempts to qualify for the Olympics in the discus. He is the defending USA Track and Field Champion in the discus.
