Rivalry Hits New Height with Hanover and B&B as they Vie for Spot in State Title Game
By Mike Smith

Friday night has two teams that are quite familiar with each other and success on the football field, as it will be a rematch of a thrilling matchup earlier this season in 8-man football. The Hanover Wildcats at 9-2 come to Baileyville for the second time this year to take on the #1 ranked and 11-0 Baileyville-B&B Falcons, this time a spot in the state championship is up for grab. In the last 10 seasons these two teams have won four state titles and made nine title game appearances.

The first time this season the game was a thriller to saw the least as it took two overtimes to decided the winner. On the road the Wildcats lead by 16 points over the Falcons but B&B would soar back from the most adversity they had faced all season and tie the game to force overtime, when the Falcons came up with a big stop in the second overtime and then junior quarterback, Dustin Rottinghaus rushed for his six score of the night.

Both teams had playmakers and made plenty of plays in that game. Rottinghaus tallied six rushing scores with 151 yards rushing and 143 yards passing; Dustin Deters added 150 yards rushing and a TD. For the Wildcats it was their quarterback, Cody Neiman going 10-15 for 152 yards and TD passes to Wade Steinfort and Kent Bruna, with speedster tailback, Mark Zarybnicky adding 98 yards, a rush TD and punt return TD, also.

Each team as cruised through the playoffs thus far as Hanover crushed Chase on the road with a solid all-around performance. Then then Wildcats played host to a tough Colony-Crest team and beat them 80-30 behind the pinball like running style of Zarybnicky who ran for a blistering 254 yards and four TD's in the game with Neiman adding a touchdown pass in the game, too.

For B&B they hosted Goessel in round one of the playoff scoring on all seven offensive possessions the Falcons soared pass the Bluebirds 58-8. Rottinghaus threw for 185 yards on 10-12 passing for three TD's, while D. Deters rushed for 102 yards and two TD's. The Falcons then went on the road to play Caldwell and downed the Bluejays 48-0. Rottinghaus and D. Deters both had standout games again as Rottinghaus threw for 201 yards and three TD's, while rushing for another. D. Deters put up 131 yards on the ground with a score and Tyler Deters continued to come up big in the receiving category with 119 yards and two TD catches.

Both teams are battled test outside of their game against each other as B&B beat defending 8-Man DI champs, Madison in week one of the season and also Pretty Prairie this season, both playoff teams. Hanover has two loss, but only other loss outside the one to the Falcons came against Rock Hills who is still alive in the 8-man DI playoffs.

This matchup sets up to be one of the biggest playoff games on Friday night across the state but the series of recent has been all Falcons as they have won the last six meetings. Both team meet up back in 2010 twice playing in the playoff semifinals that season and B&B came out on top 44-28 after a close regular season game, B&B went on to win the state title that season. Hanover last beat the Falcons in 2007 at 42-6 win for the Wildcats.

For the Falcons they are trying to make their fifth consecutive state title game as they have won two state titles in the last four years. B&B is a perfect 11-0 this year and 61-2 in the last five years (includes this season) and looks to continue their winning ways when they hit the field against rival Hanover on Friday night.
