Sabetha Girls Tennis Takes Second at Hayden Invitational

After a strong start to the season with a first place finish in the first tournament of the year at the Wamego Invite the Sabetha lady Bluejays tennis team traveled to Topeka for the Hayden Invitational on Thursday and took second place. 

The day was full of competition with Sabetha taking on St. James Academy, Baldwin and Hayden on the court. The Bluejays took three of four matchups with the host Hayden as Kristen Wenger won her singles match 8-2 and Angel Hadachek also won her singles match 8-0. In doubles action the team of Savanna Metzger and Laura Edelman won 8-4, while the duo of Jessica Stallbaumer and Mady McGill loss 4-8. 

Against Baldwin the Bluejays split the four matches as Hadachek earned a singles win 8-1 and Metzger and Edelman won a doubles match 8-1, but Wenger lost her match in a tough 6-8 battle and the team of Stallbaumer and McGill took a 1-8 loss. 

St. James proved to be the toughest competition for the Bluejays on the day as Sabetha lost all four matches against them. Metzger and Edelman lost a tough 7-8 (2-7) doubles match, while Stallbaumer and McGill took a competitive 4-8 loss. In singles action Hadachek lost 5-8, while Wenger loss 0-8. 

The 2-1 days for Hadachek and team of Metzger and Edelman earned them second place finishes, while the Bluejays as a team also finished second place. 

Bluejays tennis team will take flight again this season next Wednesday, September 7th at the Topeka-Seaman Invitational.
