Centralia, Axtell & Valley Heights Have Top Performances at Washington County Cross Country Invite

It was a Twin Valley League heavy competition as Washington County hosted cross country action with several TVL teams in action and Nemaha Central from the area, along with a few other teams. 

Leading the way in the team finishes on the day was the Axtell boys and Centralia girls who each won. Axtell boys took first out of nine schools fielding full teams on the day as the Eagles notched 45 points to win the Washington County Invite by 53 points. Solomon took second place followed by Centralia, Washington County and Wakefield in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Southern Cloud, Nemaha Central, Valley Heights and Onaga finished out the boys team performances in sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth. For the girls competition only two schools fielded full teams as Centralia took first over host Washington County. Troy and Clifton-Clyde also competed on the day. 

Six Top 20 finishers on the day led the performances for area teams as Centralia and Axtell both had six Top 20 finishers. Five Axtell boys notched Top 20 times with Burke Deters leading the way behind a time of 18:01 to take second place, while Oliver Schmitz (19:00) and Quinn Buessing (19:19) joined Deters in the Top 10 with fourth and sixth place finishes. Blake Porting and Simon Schmitz added 15th and 18th place finishes for the Axtell boys. The lady Eagles were led by Olivia Kuckelman who ran to a time of 22:20 to win the girls race by 55 seconds. 

Centralia was led by five gals with Top 20 finishes as Sadie and Tamra Jones notched second and third place performances with times of 23:15 and 23:27. Emma Holthaus also finished in the Top 10 behind a time of 25:47, while Courtney Huerter and Kaitlyn Becker posted finishes of 14th and 17th for the lady Panthers. Dylan Boeckman led Centralia in the boy’s race, running to a time of 19:01 to finish fifth. 

Host Washington County Tigers also had six Top 20 finishes on the day with a 10th place finish by Eric Miller leading the way (19:44). Tyler Simmons and Malachi L'Ecuyer finished 19th and 20th in the boy’s race for the Tigers. In the girls race Rachael Wood and Emily Meyer posted times of 26:08 and 26:14 to secure finishes of eighth and ninth place, respectively, while Kirsten Kingsbury tallied a 19th place finish for the lady Tigers. 

The Valley Heights Mustangs were led by the best boys time of the competition as Adrian Pishny ran to a time of 17:47 to win by 14 seconds, while his teammate Alex Hardin finished eighth (19:22). In the girls race Ilexus Rose posted a time of 25:00 to finish fifth, while DeAndra Woodyard (26:51) and Miranda Ohlde finished 10th and 20th, respectively. 

A trio of of Onaga Buffaloes registered Top 20 performances at the Washington County Invite with Belinda Ames and Halie Jeannerret racing to 11th and 16th place finishes in the girls race, while Quinton Norris finished 17th in the boys race. 

Jordan Peterson and Jessie Deters had the two Top 20 showings on the day for the Nemaha Central Thunder finishing 12th in the boys race and 18th in the girls race, respectively.
