Area Teams Compete at Holton Cross Country Invite With Hiawatha Leading Performances

The cross country season has picked up in action and several area teams competed against each other with a few others on Thursday at the Holton Invitational. 

Leading the charge for the area teams was Hiawatha who finished second place as a team in the boys and girls competition at the Holton Invitational. In the boy’s race finished in second place, behind Tonganoxie while Abilene finished third and Perry Lecompton fourth. Rounding out the Top five boys teams performances was Jackson Heights in fifth, while McLouth took sixth, Royal Valley seventh, Maur Hill-Mount Academy eighth, Jeff West ninth and Holton tenth. 

In the girls competition it was also Tonganoxie taking first and Hiawatha snagging second place, while Perry Lecompton, Abilene and Jeff West rounded out the Top five finishing third, fourth and fifth. Jackson Heights, Maur Hill and Holton finished out the girls team performances finishing sixth, seventh and eighth. 

On the way to second place finishes as teams the Hiawatha girls and boys combined for five Top 20 finishers on the day. Leading the Hiawatha boys was Gavin Lierz who finished with a time of 18:50 to take third and have the best area school finish, while Parker Winters raced to an 11th place finish. Lady Red Hawks were led by Mary Rosa who notched a time of 23:04 to finish seventh, while Emma Williams with a time 23:11 placed tenth and Madison Gilbert tallied a 17th place finish. 

Perry Lecompton had six Top 20 finishes at the Holton Invitational with a fourth place finish by Lexia Jamison (22:49) being the best showing by the Kaws. Jolie Hirsch and Blaise Ball also grabbed Top 20 finishes for the lady Kaws placing 16th and 18th, respectively. The trio of Canaan Daniels, Bryce Wheeler and Josh Mitts posted Top 20 times in the boy’s race finishing 12th, 19th and 20th. 

The best area girls time came from Jackson Heights Cobra, Faith Little who finished second place behind a time of 21:48, while her teammate Skyla Howe placed 20th on the day. In the boys race Dalton Chartier posted a time of 19:37 to place ninth for Jackson Heights. 

A pair of Top 10 times led Maur Hill both coming in the boys race as Ayden Black and Isaiah Price placed fourth and eighth, respectively with times of 18:51 and 19:35. 

Braeden Pfau led McLouth at the Holton Invitational finishing seventh in the boys race behind a time of 19:32, while Dakota Driskill finished 15th in the boys race and Ceara Funk 13th in the girls race. 

Two Royal Valley Panthers had Top 20 finishes at the Holton Invitational as Katie Hanshaw ran to an 11th place finish in the girls competition and Garrett Hicks finished 14th in the boys race. 

ACCHS Tigers were led on the day by Victoria Caplinger who finished 12th in the girls race, while Jeff West Tigers had one Top 20 finish with Macy Tucker finishing fifth in the girls race with a time of 22:54.
