Despite a season opening 34-14 loss to Jefferson County North last week, Maur Hill-Mount Academy head coach Jermaine Monroe couldn’t believe the maturity he saw from his freshman quarterback Jack Caudle.
Caudle did his best to impress his head coach again Friday night, completing 10-of-12 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns in the Ravens 31-13 over McLouth at Guy Galley Field in Atchison.
After holding the Bulldogs on the opening possession of the contest, Caudle wasted no time placing his stamp on the game. The freshman found senior receiver Colten Kocour for a 42-yard gain, before the two connected once again on a 29-yard touchdown pass to put the Ravens up 7-0 with 6:13 remaining in the first quarter.
The Ravens rattled off 24-straight points from there to lead 24-0 at halftime after a 45 minute rain delay with 3:42 remaining in the half. MH-MA received a touchdown run of eight yards from sophomore Cameron Taft and a one yard rush from Caudle, while senior kicker Arthur Rocha tacked on a 31-yard field goal late.
Another 45 minute lightning delay pushed back the start of the second half, but the Ravens picked up right where they left off. With 1:53 left to play in the third junior linebacker Jared Thibault intercepted McLouth sophomore quarterback Jeremy Carlton, and one play later Caudle connected with Rocha who made two defenders miss on his way to the end zone from 59 yards out. Rocha tacked on the point after, and the Ravens led 31-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
McLouth was able to find the end zone with 4:44 remaining in the game on a 74-yard trick play from Garrison Pope to Jeremy Carlton, and on the game’s final play Carlton connected with Pope to give the Bulldogs their only points of the game.
The Ravens held McLouth to just 146 total yards in the game, with 99 of those yards coming through the air. MH-MA was led on the ground by Ronald Faulk-Tindal who rushed 12 times for 50 yards, while Rocha caught four passes for 78 yards and Kocour three receptions for 80 yards.
Maur Hill-Mount Academy (1-1, 1-1 NEKL) travels to Horton next week, while McLouth (0-2, 0-2 NEKL) is at Immaculata.
