A trio of area teams from three different leagues hit the volleyball court on Saturday at the Riley County Invitational looking to take on different competition outside of league play. 

Jefferson County North, Holton and Valley Heights all made an impact at the Riley County Invitational and posted finishes of first, fifth and sixth, respectively. 

The day started with pool play action as Holton competed in Pool A along with St. Mary's, Clay Center and Chapman, while JCN and Valley Heights both competed in Pool B with host Riley County and Mission Valley. Holton had tough play pool play matches as they all went three sets but the Wildcats managed only to beat Chapman and fell to St. Mary's and Clay Center. In Pool B JCN took down the competition going 3-0 with tough three set wins over Valley Heights and Riley County, while beating Mission Valley in straight sets. Valley Heights finished pool play 1-2 with their lone win coming in straight sets against Mission Valley, while falling to JCN and Riley County. 

The 1-2 marks in pool play put both Holton and Valley Heights into the consolation bracket were they both picked up wins in the Consolation Semifinals. Holton notched a straight set 25-20, 25-20 win over Mission Valley, while Valley Heights lost set one against Chapman but won the next two sets to win the match 11-25, 25-21, 25-19. That pitted Holton against Valley Heights against each other for fifth place and the Wildcats finished the day strong with a 25-19, 25-18 win over the Mustangs for fifth place, giving Valley Heights sixth place. 

For JCN after a 3-0 performance in pool play the Chargers took on Clay Center in the Semifinals and won in straight sets 25-12, 25-17 to move into the Championship match. The Chargers put the final stamp on a perfect day by beating St. Mary's 26-24, 25-17 to finish 5-0 on the day and win the Riley County Invitational.
