Pleasant Ridge Leads Area Perfomances at Wamego Cross Country Invite

It was one of the largest cross country meets of the season thus far as Wamego hosted action on Saturday and had split races with a 3-2-1A race and 4A race for both girls and boys. 

Several area teams continued their cross country seasons at the Wamego Invitational competing against some strong competition in Kansas. 

The top performance of the day for an area team was a first place finish for the Pleasant Ridge Rams who were led by a pair of Top 10 individual finishes to help them win the 3-2-1A race Wamego Invite title by 11 points. Frankfort earned fourth place as a team, while Sabetha and Marysville also fielded teams with 12th and 18th place finishes. Nineteen schools field boy’s teams in the 3-2-1A race. For the girls 3-2-1A race Sabetha was the only area school to field a team and finished 11th out of 12 teams. 

In the Class 4A races Atchison competed and earned eighth place out of 14 teams in the girls race, while finishing 16th place as a team for the boys out of 20 teams. 

Pleasant Ridge boys on their way to team first place finish were led by Luke Oatney and Clayton Price who posted times of 17:53.8 and 18:17.1 to place fourth and ninth, respectively. Dayton Flack added a 26th place finish in the 3-2-1A race that featured 138 total runners for the boy’s competition. 

Frankfort Wildcat, Broderic Shirley posted the second best time on the day in the 3-2-1A boys race notching a time of 17:38.7 to take the silver, beating out 136 runners for second. His teammate, Colton Parthemer raced to a 24th place finish. 

Sabetha Bluejays had Keegan Cox post a time of 18:30.4 to have their best performance at the Wamego Invitational placing 11th in the 3-2-1A boy’s race. Megan Meyer of Sabetha had the best finish of the area girl competitors in the 3-2-1A finishing 32nd but no area runner finished in the Top 20 in the girls 3-2-1A race. 

Atchison was led on the day individually with a 12th place finish from Emily Jaloma who posted a time of 21:29.3.
