Hiawatha Hosts Sabetha & Perry Lecompton Among Others at Hiawatha Girls Tennis Invite

On a beautiful day Saturday Hiawatha hosted girls tennis action and the action proved to be highly competitive between area teams and others. 

Sabetha, Perry Lecompton and Atchison were all in competition at the Hiawatha Invite along with the Red Hawks competing against some bigger schools in Free State, Seamen and Highland Park. 

For the Sabetha Bluejays a second, third and fourth place finish in competition. Kirsten Wenger paced the Bluejays with a 3-1 day in Singles #1 action picking up wins over Perry Lecompton (7-5), Highland Park (7-3) and Atchison (7-0) in pool play and in the Championship match she fell to Free State 5-7 to take second. Third and fourth place finishes came for Sabetha in Doubles #1 action as the team of Savanna Metzger and Laura Edelman took third and Jessica Stallbaumer and Angel Hadachek finished fourth posting 3-1 and 2-2 records on the day. Metzger and Edelman beat Highland Park (7-1) and Atchison (7-0) in pool play, but fell to Perry Lecompton (2-7), while the team of Stallbaumer and Hadachek notched wins over Hiawatha (7-3) and Seamen (7-3) in pool play and took a loss to Free State (2-7). Both teams then faced off for third place with Metzger and Edelman getting the win 7-3.

Multiple second place finishes highlighted the Hiawatha Invitational for Perry Lecompton. The doubles team of Harleigh Robertson and Graci Folks took second in the Doubles #1 competition going 3-1. Robertson and Folks notched wins over Sabetha, Atchison and Highland Park in pool play but in the Championship contest fell to Free State. Also taking second was the doubles team of Ella Barett and Hayley Peine going 3-1 with pool play wins over Sabetha, Atchison and Highland Park, while falling to Free State. In Singles #2 Sam Worthington behind a notched a 3-1 day to take second with wins over Sabetha, Atchison and Highland Park in pool play before falling to Seamen in the Championship match. A 2-2 day for Lia Jones earned her fourth place in Singles #1 action for the Kaws. 

Atchison had a top four finishes as doubles team of Brienna Dove and Reece Dulac competed in Doubles #2 going 3-1 to take third place, while Olivia Wabski finished fourth with a 2-2 mark in Singles #2. 

For the host Hiawatha, Aubery Wright and Becca Knudson each had one win in Singles #1 and #2, respectively, while doubles team Sydney Lowe and Jasmine Morey picked up win in Doubles #2 action.
