McLouth host Lyndon in 2A Quarterfinals
By Justin Fluke

McLouth host Lyndon tonight in the second round of the Class 2A-1 football playoffs as the Tigers are 10-0 and the Bulldogs are 9-1 with a lone 13-12 setback in week four at Olpe.  A pair of high-octane offenses collide as McLouth averages nearly 430 yards per game, including 151 passing for senior quarterback Marc Walbridge, who has also accounted for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns this season.  Four other Bulldogs have accounted for more than 700 yards of offense and playmakers in the spread attack including Dakota Cop, Nick McAferty, TJ Crowell and Drew Cerny, who was injured early in McLouth’s 42-8 Regional win against Jackson Heights last week.  It was the first playoff appearance and victory for the school since 2005.  McLouth’s defense has held 7 of their 10 opponents to one score or less.

Lyndon has some gaudy stats, too.  Their defense has been incredible allowing only 32 total points all season and pitched their sixth shutout, 44-0 over Wabaunsee last week to begin the playoffs. The Tigers offense is led by a play-making quarterback as well, as Joe Walsh has thrown for 1,270 yards and ran for another 628 while totaling 22 touchdowns.  The Bulldogs average 53 points per game and their closest contest in a common opponent as Lyndon beat Olpe 40-6.  Skylar Farwell has 1,045 yards and 23 TDs on the ground.

The Stewart family has high-stakes in the game as Chris Stewart is the head coach in his 5th year for McLouth, and his son and former Bulldog standout, Kevin Stewart is one of the assistant coaches for Lyndon.  The other son who also played college football, Mark Stewart, will miss the high school game as he is a student-assistant for Bill Snyder this year for Kansas State and preparing at TCU.

Kickoff is 7:00 PM in McLouth.  The winner of this game will advance to the state semifinals and play either Centralia/Wetmore or rematch against Olpe.
