Jefferson County North Dominates Horton to Remain Undefeated
By Jonny Kane

Heading into Friday night’s matchup with Horton, the Jefferson County North Chargers found themselves off to the best start the school has seen in five plus years sitting at 4-0 and at the top of the Northeast Kansas League standings.

Nothing changed after the game, as JCN compiled 386 total yards of offense in a 42-6 win on homecoming night in Winchester.

The Chargers in green wasted no time jumping out in front of Horton, as Samuel Larson scored the game’s first touchdown from 41 yards out with 9:40 remaining in the first quarter. Junior quarterback Boston Lane connected with senior receiver Brysen Weishaar on the two-point conversion try to give JCN a quick 8-0 lead.

After a quick three-and-out from the Horton offense, Ridge Robertson put the Chargers up two scores on a 38-yard touchdown run with Lane connecting with senior receiver Brayden Summers on the conversion to make it 16-0, JCN.

Horton couldn’t get anything going on their second drive of the game being forced to punt after picking up just one first down. Robertson capitalized on great field position scoring his second touchdown of the game, this time on a 53-yard screen pass from Lane, and JCN led 22-0 late in the first quarter.

The Chargers from Winchester would score twice more in the second quarter on a 32-yard pass from Lane to Summers and a four-yard rush from Robertson to lead 34-0 at the break.

The JCN defense held Horton to just 71 total yards in the first half, while also forcing a fumble.

Horton finally started to put a drive to together to start the third quarter reaching the JCN 15 yard line, but a Summers interception at the five halted the scoring opportunity.

Robertson put the exclamation point on top from there, scoring on the next play from 63 yards out to put the game away.

Ridge Robertson finished with 153 yards on the ground and three scores while also recording a 53-yard touchdown reception. Robertson also completed one pass for 63 yards, while Boston Lane was 3-for-4 through the air for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

JCN (5-0, 5-0 NEKL) now gears up for the opening of district play next week at Christ Prep on Saturday, while Horton (1-4, 1-4) hosts Doniphan West Friday.
