Hiawatha & Perry Lecompton Girls XC Win 3A Regional Titles & Pleasant Ridge Boys Take Third

Two Class 3A cross country Regionals featured teams from Northeast Kansas on Saturday with most of the area teams competing at Riley County, while a few were in action at Council Grove. 

A Regional championship led the way in Class 3A for area performances as the lady Red Hawks of Hiawatha edged Beloit by three points to claim the Regional title and qualify for State as a team. A time of 19:30.14 led Hiawatha girls on the day as Elizabeth Kettler posted the time to place second at Regionals, Emma Williams took sixth place with a time of 21:28.34. While, Mary Rose placed 14th, Aly Shamburg 21st, Jada Rosa 23rd, Madison Gilbert 26th, Sofie Yde 39th. Gavin Lierz is also headed to State for Hiawatha after placing fifth with a time of 18:19.04 in boy’s competition, placing in the Top 10 to qualify individually for State. 

Perry Lecompton lady Kaws claimed the Regional title at the Council Grove Regional to qualify for State as a team, just edging Southeast of Saline by one-point. Lexia Jamison led the lady Kaws placing second with a time of 20:37.40, while Blaise Ball placed 12th and Jolie Hirsch placed 22nd. Also in action for the lady Kaws was Emily Hamm who placed 25th, Mary Kathryn Dwyer 36th, Sara Haggard 41st and Dorothy Haggard 54th. 

Pleasant Ridge boys had the best area team performance in the boys race placing third at Riley County Regional to qualify for State as a team. The Rams were led by an individual Regional champion as Luke Oatney with a time of 17:04.67 won the Regional title. Clayton Price earned third place with a time of 17:59.42, while Garrett Silvers placed 18th, Reid Herken 33rd, Dayton Flack 34th, Glenn Smith 49th, Derek Zule 62nd. 

Sabetha Bluejay, Megan Meyer earned a spot at State with a time of 21:31.10 to place seventh in the girl’s competition and qualifies for State individually, while Henry Glynn who placed 11th in the boys competition at Regionals also qualified individually for State, both competing at the Riley County Regional.

Marysville Bulldog, Jacob Backus posted a time of 18:04.53 to place fourth a Regionals in the boys race and earn an individual spot at the 3A State competition, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven, Ayden Black is also headed to State as an individual after placing sixth with a time of 18:19.58, both in action at the Riley County Regional

Royal Valley Panther, Garrett Hicks placed 12th and qualified for State individually, competing at the Riley County Regional. 

Oskaloosa competing at the Council Grove Regional had Braeden Pfau qualify for State individually posting a time of 18:17.60 and placing tenth. 

Horton, Riverside, ACCHS and Nemaha Central all also had runners in action on Saturday at the Riley County Regional.

The Class 3A State cross country meet is set for Saturday, October 29th in Lawrence at Rim Rock.
