Troy Trojans were eager entering the football season as the team feels there is some unfinished business they have to take care of falling just short in the Class 2-1A State Championship last year to Phillipsburg. This year the Trojans are 10-0 and into the Sectional round of the 2-1A playoffs, two wins shy of a return trip to the State title game. Standing in the way of the Trojans in the Sectionals is a familiar foe they have seen in the playoffs the past few years that is the Lyndon Tigers.

The Trojans get the Tigers at home this year and Lyndon enters the game with a 9-1 record on the year. The Tigers lone loss was to Olpe in the regular season finale by six points, but Lyndon bounced back to take down Oswego 56-12 in the 2-1A first round of the playoffs to get to the Sectional round. Lyndon has been a run based team rushing for 277.7 per game this year but can be balance having passed for 128.4 yards per game this year. Senior quarterback, Rylan Burns leads the offense as the signal caller tossing for 1,221 yards with 13 touchdowns and rushing for 11 scores, but the key for the Trojans will be finding an answer for junior, Dexton Swinehart who has 1,413 yards rushing with 18 touchdowns along with 631 yards receiving with seven more scores. The Tigers have also been discipline with the ball only having seven turnovers this year carrying a +9 turnover margin on the season.

Troy entered the postseason this year with a unblemished record and kept it that way with a 42-16 victory against fellow Twin Valley League foe in Valley Heights using a strong second half to earn the win amassing 401 yards in the game including rushing for 238 yards as a team. The Trojans offense has been prolific all year averaging 44.8 points per game with 246.4 yards passing and 150.6 yards rushing per game. A strong core of upperclassmen including a loaded senior class has been leading Troy this year with several key guys back from last year like quarterback, Reid Greaser who has thrown for over 2,300 yards with 34 touchdowns while the duo of Cuttar Huss and Brody Winder have been huge too with over 1,000 and over 800 yards receiving respectively with 16 and 10 touchdowns receiving. Huss has added a rushing dynamic also while Alex Martinez leads the team in rushing with nearly 450 yards. Trojans defense has given up only 15.1 points per game and has forced 21 turnovers and has turned those into points more often than not.

The matchup marks the fourth straight year that Troy and Lyndon will play in the Sectional round of the 2-1A playoffs, Troy won the last two showdowns last year 58-21 and two years ago 23-0 over the Tigers, while Lyndon won the matchup in 2013 37-8.

The winner of the matchup earns a trip to the 2-1A Sub-State round of the playoffs and draws the winner of the Washington County at Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan Sectional game. Listen to the Lyndon versus Troy game on KAIR 93.7 FM and MSCSports.net with kickoff at 7:00pm.
