KBCA Rankings (Dec 5th, 2016) - click here

The high school basketball season tipped off last week for most teams across Kansas while a few will get their seasons rolling this week. The KBCA has released a fresh set of rankings and this week the rankings feature 14 area teams after games last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Class 1A-Division I continue to be the classification featuring the most area teams in the polls between the girls and boys polls combined. Two area teams opened the season ranked number one in 1A-DI and remain that way this week as the lady Centralia Panthers are #1 again in the rankings after a season opening 37-35 win over Valley Falls to start the year 1-0 and win their 25th straight game dating back to last year. Joining Centralia in the girl’s rankings is Hanover again this week remaining ranked #3 in the polls after a 78-7 win over Bishop Seabury to start the year. Joining the girls 1A-DI poll this week is the Frankfort Wildcats who open the season 1-1 with a tough double overtime loss to defending 3A champs, Silver Lake 70-68 and a 51-42 win over Pawnee City; the Wildcats jump into the polls this week at #10.

The other #1 team in the 1A-DI polls is the Hanover Wildcat boys who despite starting the season 0-1 remain ranked #1 as they fell 77-57 to the second ranked 2A team in the State in Bishop Seabury in their season opener. The Centralia Panther boys also remain in the 1A-DI rankings remaining at #5 after a 58-32 win over Valley Falls in the season opener.

Class 1A-Division II has only two teams from the area in the rankings this week both on the girls side as the Wetmore Cardinal girls moved up one spot to #4 after a 45-34 win over Lewiston to open the season 1-0. The Axtell lady Eagles have started the season 0-2 with tough losses to bigger schools in Marysville (67-42) and Wabaunsee (44-30) and fell in the rankings four spots to #5 this week.

Class 2A polls feature a pair of area boy’s teams who along with two other ranked 2A boys teams in the latest Top 10 are all in the same Sub-State. The Troy Trojans haven't started the season yet as they open it up on Tuesday remain ranked #5 as they continue to celebrate a 2-1A football State title, while Jackson Heights boys remain ranked #8 this week after a 62-37 win over Immaculata in the season opener starting the year 1-0. Both KC Christian and Bishop Seabury who are ranked #4 and #2 respectively are both in Troy and Jackson Heights Sub-State.

A trio of area teams are ranked in the Class 3A polls with not much change in their preseason ranking. The lady Bluejays of Sabetha have started the season 2-0 with a 57-32 win over Riverside and a 39-36 win over Marysville and move up one spot to #4 in the latest KBCA rankings. While in the boys polls Marysville and Nemaha Central remain ranked #5 and #6 respectively this week. Marysville has started the season 2-0 with a 66-23 win over Axtell and 46-27 win over Sabetha, while Nemaha Central is 1-0 after a 46-36 win in the season opener over Jeff West.

Class 4A-Division II polls feature a pair of area girl’s teams as they did to start the season with both Holton and Jeff West continuing to be ranked but switching spots in the poll. Holton is up two spots to #5 after a 57-24 win over Perry Lecompton to start the year 1-0, while Jeff West fell to Nemaha Central 39-34 in their season opener starting the year 0-1.

The basketball season is in full force this week with action for all the area teams as they get into the swing of the season.
