Perry Lecompton & Atchison Take First & Second at Atchison Wrestling Invite

Several area teams hit the wrestling mats on Saturday at the Atchison Invitational as the Redmen hosted the action. 

At the end of the day the competition was dominated by the Perry Lecompton Kaws who posted 190.5 total points as a team to take the tournament team title by 102.5 points. The host Atchison behind 88 points edge Schlagle by five points for second place out of 14 schools. Jeff West Tigers took fourth place as a team, while Oskaloosa, Hiawatha, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Onaga all were in action finishing seventh, ninth, 10th and 14th, respectively. 

Six individual champions on the day paced Perry Lecompton in action leading them to the team title at the Atchison Invite. Kyle Bonham (285lbs), Collin Rossillon (195lbs), Torin Van Nest (152lbs), Nick Quinlan (145lbs), Grant Roush (126lbs) and Braden Woodson (106lbs) all finished the day with unbeaten records on action at the Atchison Invite all earning first place finishes. Woodson notched the most wins going 4-0 in action with three pinfall win and a technical fall victory to take the 106lbs weight class, while both Bonham and Quinlan earned their first place finishes at 285 and 145lbs by going 3-0 on the mats. Bonham registered three pinfall wins, while Quinlan won via pinfall twice and also by a 13-0 major decision. Roush, Van Nest and Rossillon each posted 2-0 days on the mats to earn first place finishes. Roush won by pin and 9-4 decision, while Van Nest won by major decision 13-1 and 5-0 decision and Rossillon recorded his wins by pinfall. Behind 2-1 records on the mats Joel Guess (138lbs), Wyatt Pringle (120lbs) and Dalton Kahle (113lbs) all earned second place finishes for Perry Lecompton and third place finishes were picked up by Hunter Barnes (113lbs) after a 1-2 day and Cyrus McCoy (170lbs) after a 2-2 day. 

A 4-0 day by Gio Burk at 170lbs lead the host Atchison Redmen on the mats on Saturday as he took first place with three pinfall wins and a win by injury default. Collin Moranz had a 1-1 day to take second at 160lbs and Alex Bindel (160lbs), Gavin Rebant (126lbs) and Jayden Watkins (120lbs) all took third place posting records of 2-1, 3-1 and 3-1 for Atchison. 

Two pinfall wins and a 9-4 decision lead to a 3-0 showing for Kody Gibson of Jeff West at 132lbs and earned him first place to lead the Tigers. While, Chase Montgomery with a 2-1 day took second place at 182lbs and Joel Scott went 1-1 to take second at 126lbs. Both Tyler Casto (145lbs) and Shane Kelly (120lbs) each registered 2-2 days on action and took fourth place. 

Oskaloosa Bears were led b Jared Miller who wrestled to a 3-0 mark on the day taking first place at 182lbs earning all three wins by pinfall. Chris King added a third place finish to the day for the Bears going 4-1 in action. 

All three Hiawatha grapplers finished fourth or better on the day with two of the three earning a second place finish. Taylor Hughes (132lbs) and Keenan Hinton (220lbs) each took second place after going 2-1 in action, while Lennon Bolinger (285lbs) grabbed a fourth place finish by going 2-2. 

Maur Hill-Mount Academy was led by Benedict Humburg who wrestled to a 2-1 record on the day taking second at 145lbs, while Blake Mispagel (138lbs) and Conner Wilson (152lbs) each took fourth place going 2-2 and 1-2 in action, respectively. 

A third place finish by Kylar Schmidt at 182lbs earned him a third place finish as he went 3-1 in action on the mats.
